We are looking for a passionate Senior DevOps Engineer to join our team and build the highly available Azure cloud services that make this crucial mission possible.

Working with our architects and development teams, you will be central to designing, building, and maintaining our deployment pipelines and environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Your expertise will directly empower our delivery teams and advance the DevOps practices that allow us to help millions of people achieve financial stability.

You'll be part of a dynamic team dedicated to helping people across the UK improve their financial wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:



Design, build and maintain resources in Azure cloud using Infrastructure as Code (IaC, Terraform).

Lead the design and development of our deployment pipelines and automation solutions using Azure and open-source tooling.

Continuously analyse our DevOps processes and identify opportunities to further automate and refine our deployment practices.

Engage collaboratively in an agile environment, working closely with solution architects, technical leads and developers.

Implementation of services that meet Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.

Contribute to low level design and maintain documentation.

Peer reviewing IaC developed as part of our workflow.

Able to self-manage including keeping technical knowledge up to date.

Promoting collaborative working, efficiencies and knowledge transfer.

Actively participating within the wider community of practice; advocating DevOps best practices and sharing knowledge/experience.

Mentoring and providing guidance to DevOps and Software Developers.

Leading/facilitating technical discussions and engaging with external delivery partners as appropriate.

. You can collaborate with others when necessary to review specifications. You can use the agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity, using the right standards and tools. (Skill level: practitioner)

Prototyping

. You can approach prototyping as a team activity, actively soliciting prototypes and testing with others. You can establish design patterns and iterate them. You can use a variety of prototyping methods and choose the most appropriate. (Skill level: practitioner)

Service support

. You can identify, locate and fix complex service faults, advise others on different methodologies and types of service support (Skill level: expert)

Systems design

. You can design systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact, and business or technical complexity. You can select appropriate design standards, methods and tools, and ensure they are applied effectively. You can review the systems designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology. (Skill level: practitioner)

Systems integration

. You can define the integration build, co-ordinate build activities across systems and understand how to undertake and support integration testing activities. (Skill level: practitioner)

User focus

. You can collaborate with user researchers and can represent users internally. You can explain the difference between user needs and the desires of the user. You can champion user research to focus on all users. You can prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so. You can offer recommendations on the best tools and methods to use. (Skill level: practitioner)

You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience.



Essential



Highly experienced, working with a range of Azure Cloud Services including API Management and function apps.

Demonstrable experience in the build and optimisation of pipelines (ideally in Azure DevOps).

Coding background, with experience in a language such as Python, Java, C# JavaScript, React or PowerShell.

Experience in provisioning and managing infrastructure through IaC (e.g. BiCep, terraform).

Demonstrable commitment to high quality, cost effective and robust engineering practices.

Experience working within an agile development team.

Experience of productive collaboration with design, testing, product and other digital delivery colleagues.

Desirable



Experience with JavaScript and building/deploying/scaling React-based applications (or similar).

Experience working within a monorepo environment and tooling such as NX or turborepo.

Experience working with Netlify or Vercel PaaS.

Experience with bash scripting.

Experience with git version control.

Experience in a senior role.

Flexible Working


At MaPS, we take pride in our flexible approach to work. As standard, we work on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week. Hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and our headquarters in Bedford will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business needs, but personal and other relevant circumstances will also be considered. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
