Contract - Permanent



Full-time 37.5 hours a week



An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and capable Senior Radiographer to join our service. The role sits within an established Imaging team delivering high-quality diagnostic services within a modern, well-equipped department, supporting a full range of imaging pathways including plain film, fluoroscopy, mobile radiography, theatres and advanced modalities.



The post holder will contribute as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, providing high-standard imaging and rotating through core areas, with access to training opportunities across CT, MRI and Interventional Radiology.



The post holder is required:



To prioritise patients to ensure optimum efficiency and service quality.

Act independently in the assessment of referrals for X-Ray examinations, taking full responsibility for the justification of general X-Ray examinations (under guidance of Imaging Protocols) in order to reduce unnecessary ionizing radiation exposure of patients in accordance with IR(ME)R 2017.

Maintain a high level of expertise in the safe operation of X-Ray equipment and manage faults effectively and in accordance with guidance given in induction.

To comply with and contribute to the implementation of departmental and professional policies and procedures such as



Health and Safety including risk assessment and COSHH

Radiation Protection Procedures IRR 2017

Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017 (IR(ME)R 2017).

Quality Assurance Program

To ensure that all data inputs are accurately recorded in order to maintain the integrity of data for both patients and service.



To provide professional support to colleagues, medical and nursing staff and all other staff groups.



To ensure professional practice is maintained and extended through participation in Continuous Professional Development.

Clinical Duties



Assess a referral or request form and justify it under radiographic regulations and locally agreed protocols.

Prioritise patients to ensure optimum efficiency and service quality.

Ensure that the protocol used for an examination is suitably matched to the clinical indications for the procedure.

Liaise with referring clinicians to clarify or discuss requests for complex radiographic procedures.

Act as a point of advice for referrers, other clinical staff, patients and their relatives.

When permitted by information governance, effectively communicate and reassure patients, relatives, and staff about discussions concerning patient procedures.

Assess the physical, mental and communication abilities and needs of individual patients and respond appropriately.

Document that patients have consented to procedures and to issue and ensure they understand any instructions they need to follow.

Enter accurate patient examination data into Imaging Information Systems i.e. RIS and PACS.

Accurately position patients for examinations, adapting standard techniques as necessary to accommodate their individual abilities, needs, and limitations, ensuring appropriate radiographic procedures are conducted.

All staff are expected to actively participate in annual appraisals and set objectives in conjunction with their manager. Performance will be monitored against set objectives.
