Overview of project/role
We are looking for a highly experienced and driven Senior CAD Engineer to play a pivotal role within our Digital Engineering team. This senior-level position will support and guide technical delivery across the business. The successful candidate will lead the development of complex design solutions, mentor junior engineers, and help shape best practices in CAD and BIM modelling across diverse and high-impact infrastructure projects.
As a senior member of the project design team, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated design outputs that align with project and business objectives. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of technical outcomes on major projects, contribute to digital strategy, and support the development of critical infrastructure within the capital transport system.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the production of high-quality engineering drawings and 3D digital design models using industry-standard CAD and BIM tools
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and quality assurance to the CAD team across multiple projects
Ensure all design outputs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and governance frameworks
Actively contribute to innovation, process improvement, and the adoption of emerging technologies and workflows
Coordinate effectively with engineers and stakeholders across all disciplines to ensure cohesive and efficient project delivery
Maintain a deep understanding of the latest CAD/BIM software developments, ensuring continuous alignment with best practices
Skills & Capabilities:
Essential
Expert proficiency in Bentley MicroStation and ProjectWise for 2D and 3D design
Desirable
Strong leadership, organisational, and mentoring abilities
Proactive and resourceful, with the ability to operate independently and drive team performance
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
High attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety in design delivery
Knowledge:
Essential
In-depth knowledge of BIM, GIS, and digital engineering tools and methodologies
Strong understanding of civil/structural engineering principles and the built environment
Desirable
Familiarity with Bentley Open Building Designer and other relevant design platforms
Comprehensive knowledge of the design lifecycle and systems integration across transport infrastructure
Awareness of relevant TfL, British and International standards, and industry best practices
Good commercial awareness, including the implications of digital design on project delivery and cost
Solid understanding of health and safety legislation and digital risk management in engineering
Experience:
Essential
Typically, 5+ years' experience in a CAD engineering role, including leadership or senior responsibilities on complex, multi-disciplinary projects
Desirable
Proven track record of delivering digital design services to industry standards on both large and small-scale infrastructure schemes
Experience building strong relationships across teams, functions, and external stakeholders
