The Global Congress Lead is accountable for the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of the company's presence at key medical and scientific congresses on a global scale. Reporting to the Executive Director, Medical Excellence, this role will play a critical part in elevating the visibility of BioNTech's portfolio by ensuring impactful scientific communication and engagement with key external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, academic partners, external experts and HCPs. The Congress Lead will lead a team to define and execute on the congress strategy and will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align congress activities with the company's medical strategy and business objectives.




Key Responsibilities







Strategic Congress Planning:


Implement a global congress strategy that aligns with the company's medical and scientific objectives, ensuring a cohesive presence at major congresses.




Cross-Functional Collaboration:


Partner with internal stakeholders, including but not limited to Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, Patient Engagement & Advocacy, and Corporate Communications, to coordinate congress-related activities and ensure consistency in messaging and scientific content.




Congress Content Coordination:


Ensure that content development for congresses (e.g., abstracts, posters, oral presentations, symposia) is incorporated into the overall congress strategy by engaging with and supporting the relevant internal teams responsible for creating the scientific materials.




External Stakeholder Engagement:


Collaborate with Scientific Engagement team and externals where needed to optimize engagement opportunities and ensure strategic interactions during congresses.




Logistics and Operations:


Oversee the logistical planning and execution of congresses, including managing timelines, budgets, booth design, satellite symposia, and internal and external event coordination.




Performance Metrics and Insights:


Establish KPIs and track the success of congress participation, including gathering and synthesizing feedback and insights from congresses to inform future strategy.




Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:


Ensure that all congress activities comply with global and regional regulatory standards, internal policies, and industry guidelines, including review and approval processes for scientific content. Ensure Congress audit/inspection readiness.




Vendor & Budget Management:


Oversee congress-related vendors and manage budget for each congress




Internal Training:


Lead internal briefings and training for cross-functional teams to ensure consistent and effective communication of the congress strategy and scientific messages across the organization




Team management:


Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of congress professionals, providing clear guidance on expectations, ongoing support and development opportunities and feedback as needed. Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture focused on continuous learning, innovation, and professional growth. Provide direction and guidance to team members on strategic initiatives, operational processes, best practices, and strategic objectives.




Ad hoc project support:


Lead and/or support initiatives as needed for to drive Medical Excellence projects and activities.



What you have to offer




Education: Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, or a related field is required. Advanced degree (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD) is preferred. Experience: >10 years of experience in medical communications, or medical affairs role within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with > 5 years in a congress planning role. Oncology Congress Expertise: Proven track record in leading congress planning and scientific communication for global oncology congresses. Stakeholder Management: Strong experience working with KOLs, academic partners, and external stakeholders in the context of scientific congresses. Leadership: Demonstrate leadership skills, and ability to develop, motivate, and retain talent.

Preferred Requirements: -


Global experience in congress management with understanding of regional and international regulatory requirements. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple congresses and projects simultaneously. Previous experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a matrix environment.

Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and execute a congress strategy that aligns with broader business and scientific goals. Project Management: Strong organizational skills with a focus on delivering congresses on time and within budget. Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent interpersonal skills to engage and manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex scientific information into clear and compelling congress materials. Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly identify issues during congress planning and execution and develop solutions that ensure successful outcomes. Proficient in Virtual and In-Person Congress Tools: Familiarity with congress management platforms, virtual congress tools, and CRM systems.
