The role

We are seeking a Senior Domain Architect to lead the technology strategy for the SMETS1 domain within the UK's national smart metering ecosystem. This is a strategic role where you will define domain-level roadmaps, standards, and patterns, assure supplier solutions, and guide the transition planning for SMETS1 end-of-life. You'll influence future investments and ensure secure, scalable, and compliant solutions that underpin the UK's smart energy infrastructure.



You will own the SMETS1 domain architecture, working closely with architects, delivery teams, and suppliers to ensure technical integrity and strategic alignment. Your leadership will drive innovation, governance, and compliance, enabling DCC to deliver resilient, future-ready smart metering solutions that support the UK's Net Zero mission.



How you will contribute to transforming energy and shaping the future.



Define and maintain the long-term architecture strategy for SMETS1. Provide design authority and assurance across supplier solutions, ensuring compliance with governance and security standards. Develop and enforce domain-specific architectural standards and patterns. Influence technology roadmaps and investment decisions for SMETS1 transition. Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders and represent DCC in external forums.

Your skills that will enable us to fulfil our purpose:

Deep understanding of SMETS1 end-to-end solutions, including head-end systems, CSP WAN connectivity, and firmware management. Expertise in cloud-native architecture (microservices, containerisation, serverless) and hybrid cloud strategies. Strong knowledge of modern infrastructure, including SDN, virtualisation, and hardware hosting. Enterprise and solution architecture proficiency (TOGAF or similar), with experience in designing scalable, resilient systems. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with proven ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
