What we are recruiting for:
We are recruiting for a EHS Manager to join our Regional Construction business as part of our Public Sector team on a 320m programme of works. Bovis have been awarded four projects across the country in Kent, Gloucester, West Sussex and Doncaster. All projects are currently in a preconstruction phase, with a start on site late 2025. During the initial preconstruction phase, this role will be based in our Leicester Office, with the teams moving to site locations as the project preconstruction develops.
The EHS Manager will lead and be the visual leader for Health and Safety across all 4 projects with values ranging 25m to 120m, ensuring consistency in approach to delivery and safety culture. To give EHS advice and support the individual project teams during pre-construction and delivery. Undertake due diligence of supply chain members during the tender process to ensure competency to undertake the works and be active during the onboarding of new supply chain members.
You will ensure that the projects are delivered in a safe, timely, efficient and sustainable manner, whilst achieving project targets, meeting client expectations and enhancing the reputation of the business
Your involvement will present direct contact with the decision makers within the business, offering technical knowledge, awareness, integration, guidance and advice. You will integrate in multi-disciplinary project teams, throughout the procurement and construction process. To set up, procure and direct the safe, efficient installation, completion and close out of the project needs and prescribed parameters within budget and within programme.
The role will be to lead and promote the safety culture on this Programme of work, to monitor and support the project delivery teams.
The project is being delivered through an NEC 4 Option A design and build Contract
Support high risk construction activity reviews and liaise with specialist SME's as required.
Due diligence and onboarding of new supply chain is a key part of your role.
Roles & responsibilities:Visual Senior Leader for Health and safety on all projects To ensure Bovis fulfills their statutory duties under the relevant legislation Support planning logistics phasing of all projects. Develop and encourage an Incident and Injury Free climate on site and in the supply chain and ensure that all health and safety obligations, process and procedures are allocated to and delivered by the construction operations team Monitor the progress of construction works and highlight areas of safety non-compliance and support the project teams to rectify . To give EHS advice and support to the Bovis operations teams To monitor Contractors and Service Providers in an assurance/governance role To provide assistance to Contractors and Service Providers to enable them to meet the Bovis contractual EHS requirements To assist in the implementation of the Education and Training plan across Bovis To lead by example and actively promote the IIF vision across all Lendlease Developments/Projects/Assets and all persons involved in their management To complete Bovis reporting/assurance requirements Liaise with all Bovis stakeholders as required Utilizing Enablon reporting tool to input data and produce reports on a weekly/monthly basis Complete incident investigations, as they occur, as part of the (8 step) Incident Team Fire planning and evacuation reviews Attend Tier 1 DTM's; participate in ROAD review meetings GMR Gap Analysis workshops with all Tier 1's Assist Management in the review of Contractor/Service Provider pre-qualification documents Responsibility for demonstrating leadership, effective team working and contributing to the development of colleagues on the project Ensure that the Construction operations processes and procedures are adhered to Please note that due to the nature of this role, national security vetting procedures apply and a full UK security check will be carried out for the successful candidate. Essential and Desired Criteria required:
(E Essential / D Desirable)Professional Construction Qualifications relevant to the role (E) Have a related Chartership such as CIOB (D) Pre-construction and site establishment experience (E) Background in design, construction & delivery process including technical Construction/engineering skill with a main contractor on projects above 30m in value (E) An in-depth knowledge of the construction process and construction methods including operational safety systems (E) Flexibility and openness of approach and willingness to work as a team player (E) Proven track record of delivering successful construction projects safely (E) Knowledge of current construction laws, legislations, and regulations, standards and procedures (E) Experience of managing field construction activities on major/ complex projects (E) Commercial and financial understanding in the above context - ability to contribute to value engineering as part of the design process (E) Written and verbal communication to influence and build relationships (E) Minimum experience approximately 15 years in construction, including a sound knowledge of Construction methodology, process and sequence Ability to influence and lead teams (E) Must lead in the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) vision, both personal and organisational, to create an existence absent of incident and injury (E) SMSTS - 5 Day and appropriate CCS card (E) Be able to obtain the relevant security clearance for the Project (E)
