The Senior Electrical & Automation Engineer will facilitate, promote and support high quality technical design, development and modification of electrical/automated control systems used in CMS2 products.
This role involves leading and developing electrical schematics, configuration of automation hardware and software, and assisting in the commissioning and maintenance of automated systems.
The engineer will lead co-ordination with other engineering teams to ensure that all electrical and automation solutions are safe, efficient, and compliant with relevant standards.
Key Responsibilities
Co-ordinate the collection and dissemination of technical information within the Company and to the customer.
Leading or contributing to compliance-based assessments for certification and associated approvals.
Lead, support and promote electrical health and safety training to raise awareness and competence within the company.
Support selection of components to meeting customer defined specifications, leading to creation of procurement specifications.
Create, support and lead creation of project specific documentation.
Production and supervision of electrical/electronic engineering drawings to support project specific technical requirements.
+ Ensure Company technical requirements and relevant professional standards and codes of practice are maintained and adhered to.
Checking and approval of engineering drawings, specifications and calculation documents to substantiate design.
Assist other members of the team with background knowledge of products/equipment and relevant engineering principles.
Selection of electrical and automation hardware for design in accordance with technical requirements.
Programming PLCs and HMIs in accordance with specifications and derived requirements.
Technical guidance for testing and fault finding of control and test systems, including preparation of relevant documentation.
Analysis, assessment and deployment of modern technology to improve the effectiveness, operation and accessibility of information at CMS2.
Lead/attend design and project meetings.
Lead/attend system reviews, verification and validation activities.
Liaison with production/sub-contractors during manufacture and test of control systems and sub-assemblies.
Configuration of automation hardware and software.
Creation and review of software requirements and specifications.
Visits to clients' offices or sub-contractor/suppliers' works as required.
Analysis, assessment and deployment of modern technology to improve the effectiveness, operation and accessibility of information at CMS2.
General activities:
Carry out any other ad-hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.
Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or during absence.
Follow company procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.
Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
Strong commitment to health and safety, environment and quality
Ability to read and interpret documents such as process engineering drawings, specifications and procedures
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
Able to negotiate and influence others
Experienced in decision-making / problem solving issues
Structured, logical approach to engineering design and pragmatic approach to tasks

Excellent attention to detail
Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivated and able to work well under own initiative
Experience of using PLCs/Automation controllers - of both hardware and software aspects.
Desirable:
Able to use basic test equipment such as, Multimeter, Loop calibrators, oscilloscope.
Good hands-on electrical skills
IOSH Working Safely
Apprenticeship in relevant engineering field
Previous experience within a manufacturing and defence environment
Experience of equipment on-board submarines highly desirable
Able to forge strong working relationships both internally and externally
5S / LEAN continuous improvement
Some travel to MoD sites in the UK and customer sites overseas may occasionally be required.
Other requirements:
Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK
Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. To gain SC clearance you will normally have had to have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
Candidates must be able to obtain a basic security check which will normally require you to have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years.
