The Position
The purpose of the Senior Electrical Consultant role is to provide expert guidance and support to clients in identifying, assessing, and mitigating machinery safety risks within our asset management capability. Currently Finch has a strong presence in the food and drink and the manufacturing sectors but is also looking to expand into other 'high risk' areas.
In addition to delivering high-quality technical consultancy, a key focus of the role is to actively contribute to the growth and development of the asset management capability within the business.
This includes internal networking and cross-selling, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture, and helping shape the strategic direction of the team's services. The role is both client-facing and internally focused, balancing project delivery with building the client base to ensure sustainable growth and excellence in process safety practice.
Profile
The role encompasses machinery safety risk assessments, PUWER assessments, UKCA/ CE marking and providing advice on resolution of issues to our wide range of clients. The role will also include functional safety assessments such as specification, verification and validation exercises. There will be the opportunity to expand knowledge into other areas such as DSEAR / ATEX, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis and Asset Management principles.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Electrical Consultant, your role will involve a blend of technical delivery, team development, and business growth responsibilities. Key duties include:
Technical Delivery and Client Support:
Undertake a wide range of machinery safety assessments including:
- ISO 12100 Risk Assessments
- PUWER Assessments
- UKCA / CE Marking
- Technical File creation
- SRS drafting
- SISTEMA functional safety verification
- Functional Safety validation
Assists clients by providing pragmatic solutions to issues identified
Asset clients by identifying opportunity for improvement
Assist clients by helping create business cases and presenting to senior management
Business and Team Development:
Assist the development of the asset management capability, including recruitment, onboarding, and capability development.
Actively mentor and support colleagues across the company, sharing knowledge and helping others develop their technical and consultancy skills.
Collaborate with the Process Safety and Health & Safety teams to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary projects.
Actively manage your own workload and maintain a forward-looking approach to business planning.
Support the business development by identifying, pursuing, and winning new consultancy work, including contributing to proposals and client engagement activities.
Assist in the identification, writing, and delivery of opportunities around the globe.
Organisational Contribution:
Prepare, analyse, and draft high-quality consultancy reports and expert witness statements to meet deadlines and client expectations.
Deal professionally and efficiently with client and third-party enquiries and communications.
Participate fully in internal meetings, knowledge-sharing sessions, and company events.
Engage in continuous professional development by attending internal and external training opportunities.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the company's services, values, and strategic objectives, and contribute positively to its ongoing success.
Experience and Qualifications
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong combination of technical expertise, consultancy skills, and the ability to contribute to business and team development. Key skills and experience include:
Technical Expertise in PUWER assessment and or UKCA/ CE marking which may be as either a designer, a consultant or as part of a maintenance/ engineering team.
Demonstrable industrial experience of working in an electrical engineering environment. This may include performing or managing Planned Preventative Maintenance, fault finding, machine installation/modification, disaster recovery etc.
Facilitation and drafting of Machinery Risk Assessments which are in accordance with ISO 12100:2010
Strong Analytical and Reporting Skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical data and produce clear, concise reports and expert opinions.
Client-Facing Consultancy Skills, including stakeholder engagement, presenting technical information, and managing client expectations.
Business Development Awareness, including the ability to identify opportunities, contribute to proposals, and support the company's growth strategy.
Collaborative Approach, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and across different business functions.
Excellent Communication Skills, both verbal and written, with the confidence to represent the business externally.
Project Management experience, including planning, delivery, budget control, and client communication.
Mentoring and Leadership, with experience in supporting, coaching, or developing less experienced colleagues or team members.
The following are a list of required qualifications/certifications:
A bachelor's degree (
minimum
) in a relevant engineering or science discipline (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics etc.)
Chartered status or working towards Chartered status with a recognised professional body (e.g., IEEE, IET, or equivalent)
Training in BS7671 - 18th Edition or equivalent such as training to IEC 60204
Qualification, Training or experience in a machinery safety area is beneficial but not required
