Role Overview
The Senior Electrical Engineer will take a lead role in designing, developing, and delivering advanced electrical systems for backup power, hybrid generation, and energy storage solutions. You will work closely with our sales team, mechanical engineers, production supervisors and commissioning team to ensure that all systems are designed to meet the customers' needs, as well as meeting the required performance, safety, and compliance standards.
This role is technical, hands on, and customer facing. You will influence product evolution, engineering best practice, and the wider technical strategy as Rapid Power scales.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the electrical design of generator systems, control panels, switchgear, and integrated energy solutions
Develop and review detailed schematics, single line diagrams, protection schemes, and power distribution layouts
Conduct load analysis & fault level calculations
Provide technical leadership for hybrid systems including battery and supercapacitor energy storage, renewable integration, and peak lopping solutions
Oversee product compliance with relevant standards
Support factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, and commissioning activities
Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical or controls issues on customer sites
Guide junior engineers and contribute to internal technical training
Collaborate with sales and project teams to develop technical proposals and solution architectures
Participate in the continuous improvement of engineering processes, documentation, and product quality
Essential Skills & Experience
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
7+ years' experience in power generation, electrical distribution, switchgear, or similar industrial sectors
Expert knowledge of LV/MV systems, protection theory, and generator controls
Strong understanding of embedded generation, harmonics, power quality, and system integration
Ability to produce high quality engineering drawings and documentation
Experience with PLC systems, synchronisation, load-sharing, and genset control platforms (Deep Sea, ComAp, Woodward, etc)
Competent in using 2D CAD
Proven track record managing engineering deliverables in fast paced projects
Excellent communication skills, including technical explanation to non engineers
Desirable
Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership
Experience with energy storage (BESS or supercap), hybrid systems, or microgrids
Familiarity with CHP packages
Familiarity with backup systems for critical industries such as data centres, utilities, manufacturing, or emergency services
Knowledge of emissions compliance and modern engine technologies
