At L3Harris in Brighton we are part of Release Systems and the Mission Avionics sector operating in the Aerospace domain. We specialise in high performance electro-mechanical systems and pneumatic technology for airborne weapon carriage release.

The Senior Mechanical Test Engineer will direct the execution of environmental qualification and product certification testing for electro-mechanical products and high-pressure gas systems. The role will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to establish technical excellence and to influence the future growth and development of a sustainable in-house test capability for a range of exciting new and innovative product developments.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
  • Direct and manage the design, development and execution of all equipment integration and test activity including the plans, processes and procedures required to successfully test and analyse the performance of electro-mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Peer review and report on test results including the preparation of technical reports and presentations.
  • Lead the development of customer proposals, and commercial bids for external test tasks.
  • Direct the development of research and innovation projects and technical trade studies including test and evaluation on a range of airborne platforms requiring complex problem solving.
  • Lead a team of more junior staff and be responsible for their mentoring, development and training.
  • Deliver technical excellence in the form of engineering and process governance, rigour and oversight to all test, integration and engineering development tasks and programmes.

The role of Senior Test and Integration Engineer requires the following experience and skills:

Essential
  • A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in electrical, mechanical or an aerospace related engineering discipline, with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Data Analysis and Acquisition (DAQ) equipment, tools and techniques.
  • A demonstrable understanding of systems engineering lifecycle development including requirements, design, integration, validation, and verification activities.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of airborne equipment and integrated systems testing including a detailed knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
Highly-Desirable
  • Experience of high-pressure pneumatics, mechanical structures and material properties.
  • Experience in the use and application of specialist measurement equipment and instrumentation / sensors such as accelerometers, transducers, high-speed cameras, or other laboratory test equipment.
  • Awareness and/or experience of engineering detail design and/or modelling or simulation tools and techniques.
