A Senior Civil Design Engineer within Licence Design and Development will develop and deliver civil/structural engineering solutions across the SP Distribution Network. This includes being responsible for undertaking civil specific design work for substations from 11kV to 33kV to confirm that the foundations are structurally sound, SPEN building specifications are met and best practice is followed. Using your professional judgement and understanding of SPEN policies and specifications, you will offer advice to the wider team designing the portfolio of projects and engage with external service partners who provide additional civil supportPerform all duties with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environment compliance, innovation and continuous improvement.
Prepare basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for concrete foundations, access roads, steel structures, drainage and buildings associated with the SP Distribution network.
Define civil engineering requirements for input to tender documentation and technical specifications.
Supporting the wider team on their portfolio of projects from a civil perspective.
Confirm that design is in accordance with construction plans and SPEN specifications
Provide assistance at project feasibility and construction stages
Liaise with other members of the design team to achieve a coordinated design solution
Review designs and drawings undertaken by others
Ensure that quality and consistency of technical and construction output is maintained
Developing and maintaining robust stakeholder and customer relationships on behalf of Scottish Power to facilitate delivery of customer and stakeholder strategic objectives.
Considering the application of innovative solutions to all designs whether this be technological, procedural or commercial.
Developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours amongst the team through the mentoring and training of less experienced team members, graduates and trainees.
What you'll bring
The postholder will be a strong communicator (written and verbal) and be able to effectively present information to all, they will be able to manage competing priorities and apply sound engineering and financial judgement in decision making and when facing complex challenges and problem solving.
It is essential that the individual has an understanding and awareness of key business drivers and commercial context in which SPEN operates and can balance customer service, civil design efficiency and return on investment.
To be successful, you will have:Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with relevant experience.
Incorporated/Chartered Civil Engineer or working towards membership of an appropriate professional body.
Experience of civil engineering design required for electrical network projects (earthworks, access roads, drainage, foundations, structures and portal frame buildings).
An understanding of construction methods with varied experience in all the common forms of construction
An ability to understand and interpret construction drawings with the ability to pay attention to detail to how this will reflect the final project
An ability to understand and interpret building regulations, construction processes, legislation and requirements.
Great attention to detail and pride in design quality
Knowledge of health & safety requirements, in particular, compliance and CDM Designer/Principal Designer roles.
Full clean driving license
Experience working in electrical industry is desirable although not essential
