--the essential skills, experience, and responsibilities required to perform the role effectively.

But we'll let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as the 'perfect' candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.

Technical Competence

This role demands a strong foundation in civil and structural engineering principles, with the ability to apply these across a diverse range of maritime infrastructure projects. You'll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in industry-standard design software and have experience working to Eurocodes, ensuring compliance and technical accuracy in all aspects of design. Familiarity with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and Microsoft Office is essential for producing high-quality documentation and drawings. While direct experience in maritime engineering is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite--what matters most is your ability to adapt and apply core engineering principles to complex, real-world challenges. The ideal candidate will be technically confident, detail-oriented, and capable of contributing to innovative solutions within a collaborative team environment.

Problem Solving & Quality Assurance

In this role, a strong emphasis is placed on your ability to approach complex technical challenges with confidence and clarity. You'll be expected to analyse engineering problems across a range of maritime and civil infrastructure contexts, applying sound judgement and practical experience to develop effective solutions. Independent thinking is key--you'll often be trusted to take initiative, make informed decisions, and manage tasks without close supervision. Alongside problem-solving, you'll contribute to quality assurance processes, ensuring that all deliverables meet rigorous technical standards and align with client expectations. Your attention to detail and commitment to excellence will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of our engineering outputs.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

Effective team leadership and mentoring are central to this role. You'll be expected to work collaboratively within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, contributing not only to technical delivery but also to the development of others. As a senior member of the team, you'll play a key role in guiding junior engineers--sharing knowledge, offering constructive feedback, and helping them navigate complex engineering challenges. Your ability to foster a supportive and inclusive team culture will be essential in maintaining high standards of performance and engagement. By mentoring others, you'll help build technical capability across the team, ensuring that emerging talent is nurtured and that project outcomes benefit from a diversity of perspectives and experience.

Client Engagement & Communication

Strong client engagement and effective communication are essential components of this role. You'll be expected to build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, acting as a key point of contact throughout the lifecycle of a project. This involves confidently presenting technical information in a clear and accessible manner, whether through written reports, design documentation, or face-to-face meetings. Your interpersonal skills will be vital in understanding client needs, managing expectations, and ensuring that solutions are aligned with project goals. By fostering open dialogue and demonstrating technical credibility, you'll help strengthen client partnerships and contribute to the long-term success of our maritime engineering services.

Project Management

Project management is a key aspect of this role, requiring the ability to independently oversee small to medium-sized engineering projects from inception through to completion. You'll be responsible for coordinating design activities, managing timelines, and ensuring that deliverables meet both technical standards and client expectations. This includes overseeing contract administration, monitoring budgets, and liaising with stakeholders to maintain clear communication throughout the project lifecycle. Your ability to manage competing priorities, anticipate challenges, and implement effective solutions will be essential to delivering successful outcomes. By taking ownership of project delivery, you'll contribute to the efficiency, quality, and reputation of our maritime engineering services.

MANDATORY Training & Qualification Requirements

MEng or BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)

BENEFICIAL Training, Qualifications, or Equivalent Work Experience
