Axscend Ltd is a UK a based trailer telematics specialist with a passion for innovation. We are a part of the SAF-HOLLAND group, who bring over 140 years of trailer expertise and the support of over 3000 colleagues globally.

Covering the whole of the UK, we work with some of the biggest Transport Operators, Trailer Manufacturers and Supermarkets in the UK, and are looking for a Server Application Developer to join our growing team.

The Basics

37.5 hours Monday - Friday 25 days holiday per Annum plus Bank holidays Home based with attendance at our Runcorn office required for on-boarding, and for up to 2 days every 8 weeks for team building and project planning. You may also be required to attend devices on-site (either at a SAF group office or a customer site) where appropriate for fault-finding that cannot be performed remotely.
As a Senior Engineer for Axscend's automotive telematics product line, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying software for our telematics devices. You will write clear, testable, extensible software and create supporting documentation allowing others to work with your solutions easily.

As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality embedded software, contributing to architectural decisions, and driving continuous improvement across our embedded platforms. You will work to ensure our products meet high standards for reliability, performance, and scalability.

You will be part of a small but growing embedded team, working closely with sister teams in web, mobile, and operations. You will be expected to collaborate effectively across disciplines, provide technical guidance where appropriate, and contribute positively to a respectful, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture.

Requirements


Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communications or related field or experience

Professional experience in embedded software development, product engineering, or software design using C.

Expertise in software development for real-time, embedded, multi-threaded systems.

Expertise in security protocols relevant to embedded or IoT systems.

Experience with Agile software development methodologies and Continuous deployment/integration practices.

Experience with Internet of Things (IoT) and/or telematics technologies.

Experience with board-level hardware design and drivers/firmware design.

Experience with remote interfaces such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GSM, Satellite, radio.

Experience with networking and communication protocols such as UDP, TCP/IP, CAN and MQTT.

Experience working within a formal software development process.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Experience with real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS)

Experience working with EBS systems from major manufacturers (Haldex, Knorr-Bremse, Wabco) and strong understanding of CAN standards (11992, TCAN, J1939, etc)

Experience working with STM32 based systems

Experience writing unit tests (Ceedling)

Strong problem-solving abilities

Keen desire to learn and innovate

Excellent time-management skills

Ability to communicate ideas clearly

Comfortable working independently and as part of a team

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 50,000.00-65,000.00 per year
