The role
As Senior Energy Storage Engineer you will be responsible to work closely with RWE Renewables development teams European wide to conceive and design energy storage system to support RWE ambitions. You will be working very closely with a talented international team of developers, commercial analysts, energy storage modelers and engineering teams to develop standalone and hybrid solutions. You will report to the Teamlead Battery Energy Storage System and help represent RWE Renewables in front of external stakeholders (suppliers, customers, TSO/DSO, and regulatory bodies).
Responsibilities
Develop reliable and cost-e?ective customer focused BESS designs in support of RWE energy storage development teams
Submit and lead creative ideas to improve RWE Renewables value proposition in energy storage
Establish and maintain the engineering design criteria, applicable standards and speci?cations for BESS projects.
Responsible for the development, review and technical oversight of all engineering and design of energy storage projects.
Review/approve the work of consultants used on BESS projects to ensure consistent, cost e?ective designs and timely delivery.
Support procurement of BESS equipment by maintaining continuous interface with Vendor's technical personnel and performing technical bid evaluation to ensure compliance to speci?cations.
Support Development and Construction to assure timely and cost-e?ective resolution to regulatory, permitting and technical issues associated with the execution and delivery of BESS projects.
Support Commissioning and Quality during the construction phase
Support system studies of BESS during design and planning and ensure its proper execution during delivery.
Mentor and develop junior engineers, interns and working students
Requirements
Excellent interpersonal skills, energetic and a self-starter with 6+ years of experience with energy storage technology, Li-Ion batteries, systems engineering and integration
Bachelor, Master or Diploma in Electrical, Renewables or Industrial engineering
Experience in Renewables, Battery storage, EPC and hybrid system (solar/wind plus storage)
Experience and knowledge with planning and technical drawings done by AutoCAD on project level
Strong knowledge of energy storage projects and industry trends with primary focus on batteries, storage and related solutions.
Beneficial to have experience with simulation software for grid studies like PSCAD or PowerFactory
Strong technical acumen with the ability to engage e?ectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, both internal and external.
Deep passion for decarbonization of the global electricity grid
The following is a big plus but not a requirement:
Experience with battery performance modelling & applications and working (and/or developing) with BESS sizing software is a plus.
Experience on BOP/BOS level (Cable calculation, Civils) incl. MV-Substation Engineering or even up to HV-Substation Engineering
