Vacancies have arisen within balance of site programme for senior mechanical engineers within the project engineering team. The purpose of the post is to manage and deliver the engineering process, provide technical oversight and ensure engineering quality is maintained.

This vacancy is a great opportunity to join an experienced multidiscipline team delivering engineering to a range of high-profile Dounreay projects at all stages of maturity from definition through to commissioning. The successful candidate will be trusted to bring confident technical leadership to their projects, interacting effectively with their project team, stakeholders, specialist advisors and contractors to deliver fit for purpose engineering strategies and solutions.
Main Responsibilities:
Control and develop technical engineering strategies, plans and procedures
Develop and execute an engineering and safety case delivery strategy, optimising plans to respond to changes when necessary
Apply health, safety, environmental and waste management processes with engineering activities taking advice where necessary from appropriate specialists
Validate the completion of activities to ensure compliance with procedures, legislation and quality standards
Liaise effectively with regulators and stakeholders on specific projects
Support investigations with regard to specific engineering discipline
Design and evaluate the technical governance of projects
Undertake project governance roles as required
Establish and maintain design authority arrangements
Identify resource requirements to deliver engineering tasks
Develop an effective technical organisation to manage fit for purpose engineering design and safety project delivery in support of the site performance plan
Manage the preparation, approval and issue of technical specifications
Support the project in the delivery of projects/programmes of work and sanction approvals
Identify, validate and approve engineering solutions for projects
Perform the responsibilities of authorisations relevant to post
Manage Dounreay staff as a line manager
Aptitudes and Experience:
Degree in engineering or equivalent qualification plus experience
Extensive experience in mechanical engineering
Experience within the nuclear sector is desirable
Experience in delivering projects through definition, design, manufacture, installation and commissioning phases is desirable
Experience in the management of external engineering contractors
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent people skills
