The Opportunity



Join the Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS) as a Senior Engineer and what you do will make UK democracy function better, more efficiently and more transparently.


The Senior Engineer role focuses on server-side languages, the build and deployment aspects, and cloud hosting of product development. Embedded within a multi-disciplinary team, you will play a key role in guiding architectural decisions, enhancing CI/CD processes and tools, automated configuration of cloud environments, and contribute to the team's delivery of high-quality products.


You will take technical decisions in line with the overarching strategic direction and ensure standards are applied consistently. You will strive to remain close to the detail on emerging technologies, identifying, testing and championing their adoption where appropriate. But your work won't stop there. Among your other responsibilities, you'll:

Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of robust software solutions that address complex business requirements while ensuring system resilience, performance, and scalability. Develop, optimise, and maintain database queries, and design relational / non-relational database structures to support product functionality and performance. Build, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines, ensuring reliable and efficient build and deployment processes, including cloud environment management. Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to design and implement software solutions that align with user needs, standards and overall product visions. Help ensure high code quality through the contribution to code reviews, the setup and configuration of static code analysis, and the of addressing issues to align with best practices and standards. Help ensure secure development practices by assisting in the setup and configuration of static security analysis tools. Work across any required issue remediation, ensuring applications adhere to security best practices and relevant cyber standards. Contribute to support processes as required, by troubleshooting and resolving technical issues across the stack, maintaining high availability and performance of applications and services.

What You Need




If you are confident operating to agile principles and thrive on collaborating with technical minds across engineering, translating customer needs into features, and have a passion for continuous improvement, then we want to hear from you. You should also have:

demonstratable experience across C#,.NET and .NET Framework, Web frameworks including MVC and Web API, SQL / SQL Server with proven experience in designing database schemas to satisfy data storage and retrieval requirements. Designing and creating RESTful APIs, Performing profiling of applications and writing performant code, Git. Abstracting code into core libraries and creating reusable components. Debugging and systems analysis experience in designing and configuring CI/CD pipelines to cloud and on-premises infrastructure. Familiar with tooling and configuration relating to build systems such as, build servers, static & dynamic analysis, deployment, configuration and instrumentation tooling. Can coordinate the flow of information and artifacts between tools. Has knowledge of, and can setup cloud environments via automated tools. understand modern software engineering standards, can apply these standards, and can support others in applying them. able to design systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact, and business or technical complexity experience designing solutions and services with security controls included, specifically engineered to mitigate security threats. you approach prototyping as a team activity, actively soliciting, building, and testing prototypes with others. You can help establish design patterns and iterate them. You can adapt your prototypes based on feedback. you can champion the user, represent users internally, and can build meaningful relationships with users to support high-quality development and delivery, ensuring to uphold the values of equality, diversity and inclusion. the ability to pass security clearance, backed by the right to work in the UK

About The Team




The Digital Delivery Directorate sits within the Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS). PDS works with the House of Commons and the House of Lords to realise the digital ambitions of a modern Parliament, and to support in building a digital democracy.


The Digital Delivery Directorate makes and manages bespoke software products that Parliament wants to run itself, to best meet the needs of its users (including Members, Peers, staff, and the public). The directorate is responsible for public-facing products (such as our public APIs and websites), alongside internal applications for users across the Parliamentary community (such as voting systems and the intranet).
