Balfour Beatty VINCI SYSTRA Joint venture is recruiting for Senior Engineering Manager (Design & Intergration) to join the joint venture responsible for the construction and delivery of HS2's Old Oak Common station in North West London. The circa 1bn project will include the delivery of six underground platforms as well as up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line.
Reporting to the Technical Change and Design Interface Lead, the Senior Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading the TC&IM function (except Subcontractor Design Interface Management and Innovation), ensure priority change decisions are streamlined and ensure interfaces with stakeholders are identified and resolved for the design stage in order of priority for delivery, or escalated for decision.
Duties
Develop and lead on implementation of a strategy for design integration between Old Oak Common design and Rail Systems design, including streamlining of change decisions.
Consult with the Senior Interface Manager for Subcontractor Design and other key people in the wider project.
Manage review and sign off for consultant's design interface records with external stakeholders (e.g. Interface Control Documents with third parties).
For Rail Systems interfaces, lead migration of consultant design interface records and supporting interface documents to the HS2 Relatics system.
Review models received from interfacing third parties for decision on whether these can be used by our design partner or Subcontractor designers for coordination.
Oversee the identification and agreement of new design interfaces with third parties
Manage the development and resolution of design interfaces with third parties
Monitor design change forms per category (change to assured design for VE, residual design (delivered late), change to interface agreement, new requirements, new scope) and report on trends.
Link design interfaces with Subcontractor packages and monitor interface resolution by Subcontractor.
Develop success criteria and monitor the design consultant's performance on their support to technical change and interface management.
Escalate unresolved risks critical to delivery to the Senior Leadership Team and the client as required.
Person Specification
Experience in Station/Rail system design integration involving specialist subcontractor design, for example cladding and station MEP systems.
Technical leadership on at least one project (or demonstrated capability)
Experience in design management involving multiple external stakeholders and asset owners
Experience on civil engineering or building projects in the UK with railway system interfaces
