Role description



In this role you will be leading a team of Technical Engineering Managers and Principal Engineers. You will have the responsibility for the people in your area, ensuring a thriving and productive working environment where technical excellence and accountability are at the core. The Senior Engineering Manager reports to the Head of Engineering in their business area and will be working closely with the Product Engineering Leads, ensure the engineering organization has the skills and structure to deliver the business goals in the right way. In this role you will be providing leadership, driving change across locations, and continuously evolving our culture and ways of working.



Key accountabilities of this role


Leadership and People Management


Be a manager of managers, taking responsibility for the alignment, engagement and development of your Technical Engineering Managers and Principal Engineers Build and nurture a culture of ownership, accountability and technical excellence where teams take responsibility for their deliverables and product quality Be a part in driving change across all locations to continuously evolve our culture and ways of working Be responsible for ensuring there are opportunities for growth, learning and career development for our staff Be a close collaborator with our HR function, contributing to both global and local initiatives
Technical Oversight and Quality


Ensure that all teams in your area deliver solutions that meet both functional and non-functional requirements, maintaining production stability and quality Oversee that technical roadmaps across your teams align with the technical strategy and business objectives Ensure engineering best practices, including code quality, security, testing, and documentation, are consistently applied across all teams Work with your Principal Engineers to drive technical excellence across teams and ensure performance and quality of deliveries Ensure technical debt is identified, prioritised, and systematically addressed across your area Own major incidents affecting your area, mobilizing resources and driving resolution even when root causes extend beyond your immediate responsibility
Collaboration and Delivery


Work in close collaboration with Product Engineering Leads to ensure teams are set up for success and can deliver on strategic initiatives Shape our engineering organization so that teams have the right capacity, structure, and resources to deliver according to expectations Ensure that all teams in your area honor commitments and deliver predictable, high-quality and compliant outcomes Facilitate cross-team collaboration and alignment on technical approaches, leveraging your Principal Engineers as technical leaders across teams Ensure clear communication of technical challenges, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders Maintain clear visibility of your organization's operational and technical performance through appropriate metrics, ensuring you can identify trends and drive improvements
We're looking for someone with the following skills, knowledge and experience


You have several years of experience in leadership and people management, including managing managers You have a strong technical understanding and can engage in technical discussions about system design, architecture, and engineering best practices You have a strong personal drive and can navigate complex scenarios without having all the answers You have the capability to balance technical leadership oversight with people management responsibilities effectively You are quick to adapt to new situations and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment You know how to build successful teams and lead them through change, fostering a culture of accountability and ownership You have a positive and pragmatic attitude, and thrive on making others successful Our Way Of Working
