Fixed Term for 6 months

\xc2\xa336,653 - \xc2\xa340,871 per annum, pro rata

Location: Braintree

Hours: 18.5 hour per week

The Opportunity:

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Environmental Health Officer / Technical Officer to join our Food, Health and Safety and Licensing team as a health & safety Inspector.

The post is a fixed term (6 months) part time post for 18.5 hours per week.

The successful applicant will be expected to carry out targeted health and safety inspections in line with the sectors and topics outlined in LAC 67/2. The main priority will be on warehouse inspections with a focus on workplace transport, falls from height and manual handling in premises across the District.

You may also be asked to investigate health and safety complaints or carry out accident investigations depending on incoming reactive work.

You will advise, educate, and take appropriate enforcement action where required.

Experience:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You must be able to work with minimal supervision and be flexible with your working hours. You must be competent to carry out health and safety regulatory work and must be either a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer with recent local authority health and safety experience or hold the NEBOSH diploma and have local authority health and safety regulatory experience.

Accountabilities: * Carry out a programme of work as agreed with the Environmental Health Manager.

  • Investigate complaints and requests for service in the area and function for which you are responsible.
  • Ensure that all matters of Environmental significance occurring within the area are recorded and pursue action, either personally or through others, to secure Environmental Health compliance.
  • Carry out the work within a team of officers and cover the work of absent colleagues.
  • Support, contribute and comply with quality practices as described within the Corporate Quality Policy and as directed by departmental and team plans/management.
  • Attend and advise Area Committees, if required, to present reports on any functions for which you are responsible.
  • Ensure that the Council and Directorate safety policies are observed.
  • Apply and actively promote the principles of the Council\'s Equal Opportunities Policy in all areas of employment and service delivery.
  • Advise the Environmental Health Manager if any of the duties and responsibilities of the post cannot be carried out.
  • Willingness and ability to work outside normal office hours when required.
  • Any other duties as required to support the business, including maintaining business continuity and during civil emergencies.
  • To apply and actively promote the principles of the Council\'s Safeguarding Procedure in all areas of employment and service delivery
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Head of Service.
