About the Role:

Thompsons of Prudhoe is looking for a skilled and motivated

Senior Estimator

to lead the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates across earthworks, demolition, and asbestos removal projects. This is a key role within our commercial team, contributing directly to successful tender submissions and the strategic growth of the business.

While prior experience in demolition is ideal, it's not essential -- we have a full team of experts ready to share their knowledge and bring the right candidate up to speed. If you're an experienced estimator with a strong commercial mindset and a background in civil engineering or construction, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

Review and interpret tender documentation, drawings, and specifications Prepare detailed cost estimates and pricing schedules for specialist works Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations Align estimates with delivery programmes and site logistics Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings Identify and evaluate commercial risks and opportunities Lead estimating efforts for high-value or complex tenders Support bid reviews and post-tender negotiations Maintain cost databases and estimating tools Review and support junior estimators' work

Skills & Experience:

Proven experience in estimating within construction or civil engineering Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail Proficient in estimating software (e.g. Causeway, Conquest, Candy) and Microsoft Office Ability to manage multiple tenders under tight deadlines Excellent communication skills across all levels Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related discipline Chartered status (e.g. MRICS, MCIOB) or working towards is desirable Familiarity with BIM and digital estimating platforms is advantageous
