We have an exciting opportunity for a mechanically biased Facilities Engineer to support the operations of our 13-acre semiconductor site in Plymouth. At the heart of this site lies a world-class cleanroom and fabrication facility spanning 3,390 m of highly controlled manufacturing space, where cutting-edge microLED technology is developed and produced.
Key Responsibilities
Own the mechanical systems across the facility, delivering safe, uninterrupted operations while improving and future-proofing our infrastructure
Drive engineering enhancements across the site's existing facilities, improving performance, reliability, and efficiency
Working closely with the electrical lead, you will troubleshoot and resolve electrical, control, and mechanical system issues to keep operations running smoothly
Monitor facility performance and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs
Coordinate and oversee contractors, vendors, and service providers for facility-related projects and services
Lead facility improvement projects, including equipment upgrades, energy efficiency initiatives, and space planning
Troubleshoot system issues, diagnose root causes, and implement corrective actions
Support capital planning and budgeting by assessing facility needs and preparing cost estimates
Develop and maintain documentation, including maintenance records, technical reports, and compliance certifications
Ensure workplace safety, reliability, and comfort for employees and visitors
Collaborate with operations, EH&S, and leadership teams to support business continuity and sustainability goals
Experience & Attributes
Minimum HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Previous experience as a Facilities or Maintenance Engineer in an industrial/manufacturing setting
Hands-on knowledge of routine mechanical and electrical maintenance
Strong understanding of building services such as: HVAC systems (temperature, humidity, cleanroom conditioning), Process cooling water systems, Air compressors, large chillers, cooling towers, High purity gas delivery systems, De-ionised water treatment plants, Effluent control systems (pH correction), Process exhaust systems, Industrial boilers
Knowledge of health, safety, and legal compliance requirements
Strong problem-solving ability with a logical, hands-on approach
Able to multi-task, prioritise, and work under pressure
Capable of working independently or within a team, with strong communication skills
Organised, disciplined, and motivated with a proactive "can-do" attitude
IT literate, comfortable with CMMS and/or BMS systems
Ability to participate in continuous improvement teams and act as a member of the Emergency Response Team
Comfortable working in a cleanroom environment
Advantage
Background in manufacturing and cleanroom operations
Familiarity with ISO cleanroom classifications and GMP standards
Experience in energy efficiency or sustainability projects
