An exciting opportunity has arisen for 3 Senior Family Support Workers to join the Safeguarding and Family Help Services. One post is in each of our area offices - North (Ridingleaze), South (Symes House) and East/Central (Welsman)
Safeguarding and Family Help Services offer support and intervention for families in need.
Key responsibilities of the service are:
Undertaking statutory duties for children and families in need or in need of protection.
Collaborating with families to meet assessed needs and support safety planning.
Facilitating change within families and family networks.
Working to keep children within their families when it is safe to do so and if not, supporting permanence plans for children in care.
As a service we have high aspirations for our children and young people and are committed to providing services to achieve the best possible outcomes.
The role of the family senior support worker is varied, and you will play a central role in supporting other workers to build and maintain relationships with children, their networks and families. You will co-ordinate and oversee family time reviews to ensure plans made are progressing and provide cover when required. You will be instrumental in mentoring workers to undertake direct work with children and their families and lead on group work and service development to support family work.
You will need to be able to work flexibly, to work on your own, respond to changing demands and be able to challenge young people, professionals and families in a calm and assertive way.
You will need excellent communication skills and the ability to form and maintain relationships with children and their families. You will support social workers and family support workers in their role working with children, carers, family and professionals.
Some of the family times you supervise will be after school hours. This means you will need to be prepared to work beyond 5pm some days. You will be encouraged to manage your own diary to take back any time accrued. You will need to travel to venues and family homes on a very regular basis. If you do not have your own vehicle, there is an option to use a pool car
The role demands a high standard of written work and IT capabilities. A good understanding of the needs of the children and families we work with is crucial.
Please note that this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
