Brief Description





As a key member of the senior leadership team, this role will proactively identify, plan, and address the financial requirements of the business, particularly around capital expenditure (Capex) to drive performance and value. Operating within a matrix structure, the successful candidate will work closely with finance and delivery functions, providing insight and constructive challenge on budgets, forecasts, Capex programmes, and strategic initiatives to ensure effective decision-making and strong governance.


The role requires an analytical mindset with advanced expertise in the Microsoft Power Platform, specifically Power BI, Power Query, and DAX, to deliver high-quality, data-driven insights that enhance financial planning and business outcomes.

About the role (External)



Review and consolidate financial results, forecasts, and Capex programmes, identifying risks, opportunities, and efficiencies.

Provide financial guidance to ensure compliance with accounting standards and governance requirements.

Oversee accounts, Capex reporting, analysis, and business planning to support effective decisions.

Develop understanding of cost, income, and Capex drivers to deliver the business plan.

Coach and challenge senior leaders on performance against budgets and Capex limits.

Challenge budget and Capex submissions, recommending cost-saving and efficiency initiatives.

Deliver KPIs and performance reporting, highlighting trends and key financial insights.

Lead financial and Capex discussions with budget holders, ensuring strong corporate governance.

Support investment and business development decisions, collaborating across the matrix structure to optimise Capex and performance.




Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications





Essential




Qualified, part-qualified, or equivalent experience (CIMA/ACCA/ICAEW).

Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across senior levels.

Proven experience in complex financial environments, including Capex planning and control.

Demonstrable expertise in budget management, forecasting, and financial governance.

Strong technical accounting knowledge with sound decision-making ability.

Advanced proficiency in Power BI, Power Query, and DAX to deliver actionable insights.

Degree in accounting, finance, business, or equivalent professional experience.




Desirable




Full professional membership (CIMA/ACCA/ICAEW).

Experience with Oracle-based systems.

Broad finance experience, including investment and Capex analysis.

Knowledge of Government accounting and governance frameworks.

Experience managing complex projects to successful delivery.
