The Senior Finance Business Partner supporting Mace Construct (FBP) will drive the delivery of effective financial management, control and advisory support for their business unit and all projects/contracts managed by that business unit. The senior FBP will work alongside another FBP within a business unit, working closely with commercial leads in the business unit, influencing and challenging financial plans and forecasts, supporting the production of financial budgets, forecasts and analysis and acting as a critical adviser and key finance contact on key financial decisions for that business unit.
You'll be responsible for:
Business Partnering:
  • Work closely with the Project Managers (commercial project leads) to help drive project performance and ensure that high quality financial decisions are made on the project.
  • Provide objective financial advice and opinions that positively impact the future of the project and associated plan.
  • Provide objective challenge regarding spend plans and financial forecasts and take a proactive role in looking for opportunities to deliver services more efficiently and effectively.
  • Investigate opportunities as well as high risk and material financial issues, or problem areas, on the projects. Develop and propose solutions and options to resolve/progress concerns and ensure they are reported correctly.
  • Support the Project Managers (commercial project leads) in assuming greater degrees of financial accountability by providing local coaching and training to improve financial confidence and competence across the business units.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to provide forward looking insight and challenge, adding demonstrable value through delivering business and accounting insight.
  • Be the financial lead for your business unit and present internally and externally on their results and forecasts as required, supporting the Business unit with dealing with client queries, bidding processes and ad hoc requests.
Project Financial Advice and Control:
  • Review financial performance, information, forecasts, and plans, (prepared by the Project Manager), to ensure they are robust and accurately reflect key project issues.
  • Ensure good cost control and cost management behaviour on projects. Promote good financial disciplines and risk management processes.
  • Ensure a robust and effective internal control framework and compliance environment exists across the project and wider finance environment and addresses risk management processes.
  • Ensure accounting processes on projects (e.g. billing, management of revenue, treatment of leases, and capitalisation of projects) are disciplined and effective.
  • Providing financial accounting for your business unit and the legal entities it operates in, including oversight of relevant areas of the balance sheet.
  • Reviewing and preparing cash flow forecasts where required.
  • Working with corporate services functions to ensure that transactions adhere to group policies and statutory requirements
  • Maintaining professional knowledge in financial accounting, tax and relevant CPD.
Business Relationships:
  • Work proactively with key Project Managers (commercial leads) to develop successful partnering relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Finance Business Partner community (across other business units) to promote and share business partnering ideas, learnings, experiences and best practice.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider finance and corporate services community to effectively deliver your role and support wider business functions.
Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Support the Project Managers (commercial leads) with the creation, amendment, maintenance and review of project financial plans, budgets and forecasts on reporting and accounting systems.
  • Support the set-up of projects and tasks structures so that the appropriate management information can be extracted.
Leadership:
  • Act as a positive representative for finance with business stakeholders.
  • Act as a role model and take a proactive approach in supporting staff development, performance and career progression.
Other:
  • Bring good practice ideas into finance and support their adoption on a continuous improvement basis to improve service, quality and/or efficiency.
  • Facilitate self-development by identifying and meeting own skill development needs and future career opportunities with the support of the business unit teams.
  • Facilitate collaboration between team members through sharing information, collaborating on decision making, and taking mutual responsibility for the work of the team.

  • Degree or equivalent standard of education.
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering a Finance Business Partner role with commercial interaction.
  • Professional accounting qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification.
  • 5+ years financial/accounting experience.
