The role

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance (with no direct reports), you will play a crucial role in providing tax compliance and advisory services to the organisation and its related subsidiaries in both the UK and international markets, working closely with the business partnering and financial control teams and inspiring the confidence of management, Board and Council, enabling strategic decision-making to be carried out. You will also lead on the organisation\'s insurance renewal process and oversee the accounting for their investment portfolio.

While not required to be a tax specialist, you should possess a good working knowledge and understanding of corporation tax, deferred tax, employment taxes, sales tax in partial exemption settings, and other applicable taxes, leveraging internal subject matter experts and external advisers when needed.

Some key areas of responsibility will include:
  • Tax compliance and advisory for the organisation including Trusts and Subsidiaries (UK and internationally), covering: Corporation tax, Deferred tax, Employment taxes, Sales tax in partial exemption setting and Other taxes as appropriate.
  • Reviewing investment reports and applicable charges and dealing with arising tax implications (deferred tax and corporation tax) and reviewing, and when required preparing and processing, of monthly journals to account for changes in investment funds valuations.
  • Managing insurance policies, including renewals and claims, ensuring sufficient covers are in place.
  • Input to planning, budgeting & forecasting on tax, ensuring that any effects of irrecoverable sales tax, deferred tax, Corporation Tax or other taxes are taken into consideration.
  • Working with Financial Controller and other Finance teams as required to ensure accurate and timely information is provided to support preparation of balance sheet and cash flow forecasts with respect to cash inflows and outflows from investments and taxes.
  • Collaborating with multiple senior stakeholders, including business partnering and financial control teams, third-party advisers, and external fund managers.
  • Supporting year-end processes as appropriate.
The ideal candidate:
  • Full qualification in finance (e.g., ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of taxes ideally within the context of a not-for-profit or professional membership organisation.
  • Hands on experience with tax computation preparations for the UK and overseas entities in a group setting.
  • Technically strong (able to evidence regular and up to date PQE, particularly with respect to recent IFRS and tax changes)
  • In depth knowledge of operational management of investment portfolios including tax implications.
  • Strong experience of dealing with business insurance renewals and claims.
  • Solid understanding of profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flows.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Alpha Tax or similar, and preferably also with Jet reporting.
