This is a senior role on the Information Assurance Team within Joint ICT. The purpose of this role is to act as a technical specialist to ensure that all force IT systems remain compliant with national and local policies and standards; and as a senior technical adviser to the Information Assurance Team.


As this is a Senior role, you will be expected to develop and train other members of the team and ensure that all staff/officers understand their responsibilities regarding the security of data/information.


The key responsibilities may include:

identification, assessment and management of security risks to information assets. analysis and reporting of threats and vulnerabilities and tracking risk mitigation activities with risk owners. engage in the security incident procedures, working with colleagues across JICT to analyse and input into reports of IT security incidents. ensure the provision of security requirements for suppliers/contracts in line with the requirements of Third-Party Assurance for Policing (TPAP); support the development of policies, standards and processes to ensure compliance with legislative and statutory requirements including Security Assessment for Policing (SyAP) and Third-Party Assurance for Policing (TPAP); provide security advice on new IT initiatives, and to change/project boards (including Software Approval Board, Architecture Review Board, Technical Efficiency Board, Digital Change Board) to ensure that security controls are adequate and proportionate, and secure by design methodology is applied. support the preparation of risk documentation, SIRO risk papers and technical risk assessments as required. creation and delivery of security education/comms relating to national and local policies and standards. provide support to internal and external audits

To be effective in this role you must be delivery focused and able to appreciate the importance of Information Security in a wider business context, while enabling the Force to meet its objectives and operational needs.


The role holder must have a customer service ethos; excellent communication skills and be an effective advocate for Information Security. You must be able to relay complex information in ways relatable to the target audience, dealing with stakeholders at all levels.


You will be expected to collaborate and effectively communicate with stakeholders across ICT, other internal departments and external regulatory bodies to ensure that security requirements and controls are embedded across both Forces.


This is a demanding role which requires experience in Information Assurance and Risk Management, sound knowledge of Information Assurance principles and relevant legislation including NIST CSF; and a sound technical security background/knowledge would be an advantage.


The role holder will need to be able to work under pressure, prioritise and manage workload whilst remaining positive and motivated. You must maintain a high degree of integrity and trust when dealing with sensitive and classified information.


Knowledge of Policing; SyAP; TPAP and/or HMG would be an advantage.


Appropriate professional qualifications in the relevant discipline would be preferred (i.e. Information Security, CISSP, CISMP etc)


You must have the ability to travel to different locations across both Forces and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. Due to the requirement to work flexibly, unsocial hours and personal safety for lone working, public transport may not be available or suitable at these times. For this reason, a full UK driving licence is considered essential.
