Senior Full Stack Developer (GIS / Mapping)

About Us

Locat is a London-based mapping technology startup developing a new global geocoding system. With a working prototype in place and IP protections secured, we're preparing for launch. Our technology enables highly accurate, language-free addressing with applications in logistics, navigation, events, property, and more.

We're expanding our technical team and seeking a senior developer with geospatial experience to take ownership of core systems and help us scale.

The Role

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on web-based geospatial implementation. You will:

Lead development of Locat's backend services, APIs, and database integrations Build scalable systems for search, lookups, and geospatial data handling Take ownership of our web mapping frontend using MapLibre Establish robust workflows (Git, testing, documentation) to support team growth Collaborate with frontend and mobile developers to deliver seamless user experiences Advise on technical strategy as we scale across enterprise and consumer markets
Essential Skills

Strong full-stack engineering background (JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, SQL) Proven experience with GIS and geospatial technologies (e.g. PostGIS, MapLibre, OSM, PMTiles, GDAL, or similar) Experience deploying to cloud platforms Solid understanding of API design and performance optimisation Strong version control (Git) and collaborative workflows
Desirable Experience

Building scalable SaaS or API-driven products Frontend frameworks (React, Flutter) for web/mobile collaboration Working with open data (OSM, Overture, or Ordnance Survey datasets) Interest in mapping, navigation, or creative geospatial applications
