About The Role

We have a new opportunity for a Senior Gardener/Tractor Driver to join our team and be responsible for maintaining and improving our award winning Town Centre parks and gardens. You will primarily be driving a tractor to maintain our large public spaces. Your role will also require soft and hard landscaping, good horticultural practice pruning, fine turf management and a variety of floral and planted display maintenance. You may also be required to assist with sports ground maintenance, maintaining play areas and preparing, excavating and backfilling graves.


The hours of work will be 8am - 4pm Monday - Thursday and 8am - 3.30pm on Fridays. Weekend working may be necessary on occasion.

About You

You must have experience in grounds maintenance with experience of driving tractors and/or ride-on mowers (a full driving licence is required). You would also need to have an understanding of fine turf culture and the knowledge of plant husbandry, horticultural pests and diseases as well as the use of pesticides.



As a Senior gardener you would be expected to have a mature attitude with the ability to direct a small team. You will be the public face of Fareham Borough Council so it is vital to us that the right person can speak to customers and colleagues in a friendly, polite and professional manner.



You will need to be able to work in all weathers and it is vital to us that you have a sense of pride and the commitment to do a good job without close supervision.
