Role Overview
We Are Care is seeking experienced and compassionate Senior Healthcare Assistants to provide high-quality, person-centred care across a number of residential and dementia care homes.
You will play a key role in supporting residents with personal care, daily living, and emotional wellbeing while promoting independence, dignity, and respect. Working closely with Home Managers and nursing teams, you will help ensure the highest standards of care and safety for all residents.
This is a hands-on role that requires professionalism, empathy, and reliability, with opportunities for ongoing development and progression.
Core ResponsibilitiesResident Care & Support
- Deliver person-centred care in line with individual care plans and clinical guidance.
- Provide personal care (washing, dressing, continence, mobility support) with dignity and respect.
- Support residents living with dementia to maintain independence and engagement.
- Encourage participation in social and recreational activities to enhance quality of life.
- Monitor and record physical, emotional, and behavioural changes, reporting promptly to nursing or management staff.
- Assist with mealtimes, hydration, and nutritional support in accordance with care plans.
Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Support and mentor junior care staff, promoting best practice in care delivery.
- Assist in staff inductions and contribute to maintaining a positive, supportive team culture.
- Ensure continuity of care through accurate communication and effective shift handovers.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Adhere to CQC standards, safeguarding protocols, and We Are Care's policies.
- Identify and report any safeguarding concerns or incidents immediately.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date care records at all times.
Health, Safety & Professional Conduct
- Follow infection control and medication administration procedures (where trained).
- Uphold all health and safety policies, including incident and risk reporting.
- Participate in supervision, training, and professional development to maintain high care standards.
Essential Criteria
- Previous experience working in residential or dementia care settings.
- Strong understanding of CQC regulations and person-centred care principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Confident to work independently and take initiative in fast-paced environments.
- Flexible to work various shifts including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and confidentiality.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Health & Social Care.
- Experience supervising or mentoring care staff.
- Training in dementia care, end-of-life care, or medication administration.
- Full UK driving licence and ability to travel between care homes if required.
Additional Information
- This role involves working across multiple residential and dementia care settings, with travel between sites as required.
- All applicants must hold an Enhanced DBS and be registered with the Update Service prior to starting.
