Job Title: Senior Health Care Assistant
Location: Nazareth House Care Village - Residential Unit, Belfast
Contract Type: Permanent
Pay: 12.71 per hour (standard rate) / 13.21 per hour when acting In Charge
Expected Hours: As required by rota
Reports to: Residential Manager / Deputy Residential Manager

Job Purpose

To deliver compassionate, person-centred care to residents in the Residential Unit, addressing their spiritual, emotional, physical, and social needs. The Senior Health Care Assistant supports residents with dignity and respect, enabling informed choice in daily living and promoting independence. This role also involves acting as a key worker, overseeing care planning, and mentoring junior care staff.

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care & Resident Support

Assist residents with dressing, bathing, toileting, and personal hygiene in a dignified and respectful manner. Promote and support independence, safety, and comfort at all times. Act as a key worker, ensuring residents' rooms remain tidy and clean, including making beds and organising personal belongings. Assist with laundry duties including the collection, sorting, and distribution of clean clothes, towels, and linens.
Mobility & Safety

Support residents in using mobility aids and ensure safe movement throughout the home. Monitor and report changes in mobility or health to the person in charge. Respond promptly to call bells and resident requests.
Meals & Nutrition

Assist with serving meals and supporting residents during mealtimes. Prepare drinks and light refreshments as needed throughout the day. Keep records of dietary intake and ensure hydration is maintained.
Resident Wellbeing & Activities

Promote mental, physical, and social stimulation through one-to-one engagement and group activities. Take time to understand each resident's preferences, interests, and lifestyle choices. Encourage active participation in daily routines and social interactions.
Health Monitoring & Reporting

Observe and report any changes in behaviour, physical health, or mood. Assist with weight checks and report concerns promptly. Maintain clear, accurate daily records of care, including care provided, observations, and resident interactions.
Care Planning & Key Worker Duties

Act as a primary carer for a small group of residents. Participate in the creation, review, and evaluation of person-centred care plans. Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain up-to-date and accurate resident records, charts, and care logs. Assist with the admission and discharge process of residents. Use the communication book and maintenance logs effectively. Record and respond to concerns, complaints, or incidents, ensuring timely reporting to senior staff. Ensure resident valuables are logged appropriately.
Team & Organisational Duties

Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions, and mandatory training. Contribute to the induction and mentoring of new team members. Participate in fire safety training and emergency drills. Practise efficient use of resources and report any maintenance issues. Be flexible in shift patterns and willing to work in other areas of the Care Village when required. Comply with all Nazareth House policies, including safeguarding, confidentiality, and social media conduct.
Professional Standards

Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and uniform in line with policy. Keep your NISCC registration up to date and maintain training records in line with RQIA requirements. Acquire basic computer skills to support documentation and communication.
Requirements

Experience & Qualifications:

Previous experience in a care home or similar setting is essential. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent). Registered with NISCC or willing to register upon appointment.
Skills & Competencies:

Warm, caring, and patient approach to residents. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong observational and organisational abilities. Commitment to ongoing professional development.
