Senior Health and Social Care Worker/Team Leader



Accountable to: Manager

Responsible to: Deputy through Assistant Deputy

Location: Penylan Residential Hotel, 82, Pen-y-lan Road, Cardiff, CF23 5HX

JOB PURPOSE:



To work flexibly as part of a team providing care on a 24 hour basis, providing help and support to service users with all activities of daily living.

Assisting with therapeutic and diversional activities for service users.

Assisting with the daily activities of the Home to ensure that service users' personal needs are met.

Assisting with the delivery of a high standard of care to individual service users under the direction of a Staff-in-Charge

To assist in the process of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:



QUALIFICATIONS



Essentials:



NVQ/QCF in Health & Social Care Preferably Level 2 or 3; or A level or higher in health care studies

Relevant mandatory training

Desirable:



Working towards NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care Level 4

Degree level of any allied health studies

Knowledge of the Regulatory Framework: Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014 underpinning the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 - RISCA

EXPERIENCE



Essentials:



Must have a minimum of 3 years' experience of working with people in a healthcare setting

Experience of working as a team leader

Desirable:



Experience of working as staff-in-charge

Experience with elderly with or without cognitive impairment

Experience in deputising in the absence of the manager/deputy

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Excellent oral and written skills

English Language Test Certification of Proficiency, i.e IELTS, OET or any UK-approved English test proficiency for non-native language speakers.

Willingness and ability to undertake a wide range of duties

Willingness to work flexibly as required throughout the 24-hour period, including bank/special holidays, weekends and rotational shifting both short and long hours.

Safe and practical approach to work

Awareness of differing cultural background of service users and diversity of needs

Ability to work as a team leader contributing to the work of the team

Positive attitude towards working with elderly who have health and mental health impairments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

To contribute and participate in the assessment, planning, implementation in the evaluation of care

To always preserve the dignity of residents

To respect the customs, individuality, value and spiritual beliefs of service users at all times.

To observe and take action on any changes in the service user's health and well being

To regularly attend staff meetings and review meetings

To assist service user with all aspects of daily living activities

To attend to any laundry, cleaning and tidying of the premises

To manage the daily activities of the home in the absence of the Deputy and/or Manager.

To be fully involved in therapeutic and diversional activities with service users

Ensure effective communication with service users, relatives, visitors, staff and others

To promote service users' involvement in all aspects of care

To assist in implementing Policies and Procedures of the Home.

To give and receive clear messages by telephone or personal contact

To maintain a healthy environment for service users and staff by coordinating and providing care.

To record, in writing, general information relating to service users and/or data collection

To undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as requested by Deputy/Manager

Report all deficits promptly in the correct manner and remove dangerous articles as necessary

Ensure all hazardous materials/equipment is stored and monitored according to COSHH legislation

Participate in supervising and mentoring junior care staff in their personal and professional development, training and education initiatives to ensure continued effectiveness within the Home.

Undertake any additional duties deemed appropriate to post including audits and coordinating roles.

May be required to work flexibly in accordance with Service needs.

TRAINING:



To regularly attend the following mandatory trainings:

o Health and Safety at Work

o Manual Handling

o Fire Safety

o First Aid

o Food Hygiene and Safety

o Protection of Vulnerable Adult

o Dementia Care

o Infection Control

o DoLS

o Other training relevant to role and responsibilities.

GENERAL:



All employees are subject to the Health and Safety at Work Act. The post holder is required to ensure, as an employee, that their work methods do not endanger other people or themselves.

All employees are subject to the requirements of the Data Protection Act and must maintain strict confidentiality in respect of service user and staff records.

Smoking. The Home is working towards providing a smoke-free working environment. Staff are therefore only permitted to smoke in designated outdoor areas only.

Full-time hours: 37.5 per week

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent

Pay: 14,900.00-23,400.00 per year
