Information Services Division (ISD) is the primary provider of IT services to UCL. We support and enhance learning, teaching, research and administrative processes by providing information- and technology-related services to over 50,000 staff and students of UCL and associated institutions.



Our goal is to be the leading IT services group in the HE sector and we are growing our team's capability in experience/UX, agile development, security, cloud, service management and partnering. We are modernising our technology foundations, digitising the processes of the university to transform experience for students and staff, and partnering across the university to drive differentiation in UCL education and research.



Portfolio and Product Delivery manage the delivery of technology led change, partnering with colleagues across UCL. We collaborate as cross functional agile teams and have core capabilities in experience, development & test, analysis and agile delivery management.


About the role

Within ISD, this post is in the Information Security Group (ISG) which leads on all aspects of cyber security at UCL. ISG is comprised of two teams covering Security Operations and Governance, Risk and Compliance.



This role sits within the Governance, Risk, and Compliance team. The focus is on the technical aspects of managing cyber security risk. As a Senior Information Security Officer, the successful candidate will lead on developing and operating the cyber security assurance processes to assess compliance against UCL technical security controls and support teams to improve their understanding of, and compliance with, cyber security controls.


About you

The ideal candidate will have a nice mix of the following skills & experience:


Experience operating as part of an Information Security Team providing support and services to colleagues. Experience managing or performing reviews, assessments or audits to improve cyber security controls. Sound technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Networks and the TCP/IP protocol suite; Firewalls and other perimeter security technology; System Administration and Server Operating Systems (Unix and/or Windows); Desktop and client devices and Desktop operating systems. Knowledge or awareness of some the following information security technologies: encryption, The TCP-IP protocol, vulnerability and penetration testing, compliance checking, anti-virus software, personal client firewall, network firewall & other perimeter security and intrusion detection technologies. Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualifications.
