Scope of the Role
The Senior Instructor - Multi Activity Programme will be a highly qualified practitioner with MCI or high-level paddlesport qualifications, and MTB Level 3. The postholder will deliver a wide range of residential, outdoor, and corporate team-building programmes for adults and young people.
The role involves acting as a role model within the centre and wider community, ensuring excellence in safety, instructional delivery, and participant engagement. While no formal people management responsibilities are required, the postholder will provide supervisory leadership to teams and support colleagues during programme delivery and deputise for the Head of Multi Activity Programme as required.
The postholder will also contribute to Plas y Brenin's wider programme delivery, including Embark expeditions and other outreach activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and supervise corporate and group programmes, ensuring safety, engagement, and alignment with client objectives.
Deliver high-quality residential and outdoor instructional programmes for children, young people, and adults.
Provide supervision and guidance to colleagues and instructors during programme delivery.
Ensure compliance with Safeguarding standards, health and safety policies, and best practice in instructional delivery.
Maintain accurate records of personal qualifications, accreditations, and NGB approvals.
Work closely with the Events and Bookings team and MAF Coordinator to coordinate programmes and manage bookings efficiently.
Develop and maintain course resources, materials, and teaching tools relevant to corporate and group programmes.
Contribute to continuous improvement of programme delivery through feedback, innovation, and sharing best practice.
Promote a positive team culture that supports collaboration, engagement, and professional growth.
Represent Plas y Brenin professionally at meetings, with corporate clients, NGBs, and partners.
Be the point of contact for Fast Track candidates, working in collaboration with the Director of Outdoor Training and Education and Director of Sales and Marketing to attract participants to the Fast Track programme.
Supervise Fast Track candidates for the duration of the programme.
Deputise for the Head of Multi Activity Programme as required, ensuring continuity of leadership and operational oversight.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
MCI qualification or high-level BCAB (or equivalent) paddlesport qualifications
MTB Level 3 qualification
Extensive experience delivering corporate team-building and instructional programmes for adults and groups
Experience delivering residential and outdoor programmes for children and young people
Safeguarding Level 3 (or willingness to work towards)
Supervisory or team leader experience within outdoor education or adventure activities
Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role
Strong knowledge of safety management procedures and industry standards
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
Meets DVLA minimum requirements for driving a minibus: held a full driving licence for at least 2 years and aged 21 or over
D1 entitlement on driving licence (able to drive minibus up to 16 passengers) + D1+E entitlement (for towing trailers)
Desirable:
PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification
Welsh language skills
