Cancer Research UK's Internal Communications Team is part of our Communications department within the Policy, Information & Communication directorate .


They manage organisation-wide internal communications for our 4,000 staff, providing strategic communications advice and developing high-impact campaigns, compelling content and engaging activities to ensure staff are informed, engaged and inspired.


In collaboration with a range of stakeholders and senior leaders across the organisation, the team's dedicated to bringing our mission to life for our staff - showcasing the impact of our science and our people.


As an Internal Communications Senior Officer, you'll play an impactful role in the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of engaging content across a range of internal platforms (e.g. intranet, email, newsletters, staff events & talks) in support of our organisational and internal communications strategies. This will involve managing multiple communications channels and leading on bespoke communications campaigns, projects, and events in collaboration with a range of stakeholders and teams from beginning-to-end, while using data and feedback to evaluate our internal impact, drive improvements, and inform decision-making.

What will I be doing?



Regularly delivering a range of impactful internal communications projects and campaigns from brief to final delivery. This will involve:


+ Ensuring internal communication activities align with Cancer Research UK's values, brand, and tone of voice.
+ Creating and delivering internal content via SharePoint, Intranet, and e-newsletters.
Collaborating closely with other teams and stakeholders across the organisation to develop and deliver effective, multi-channel, and audience-led internal communications plans for priority projects in line with our broader organisational strategy. Proactively making connections between organisational priorities and our organisational narrative and raising awareness of these connections within the Internal Communications team. Collaborating closely with other internal communications colleagues across the charity to identify and re-purpose directorate-specific messages for an organisation-wide audience. Maintaining and updating the Intranet for Cancer Research UK staff, ensuring information and resources are accessible, up-to-date, and user-friendly. Providing rapid and effective internal communications support to managers and senior leaders during urgent or crisis situations, ensuring timely, clear, and coordinated messaging.


+ This includes proactively identifying and managing reputational risks within the projects you lead, embedding risk awareness into communication planning and delivery.
Using audience insights and data to evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications, proactively identifying opportunities for improvements and presenting insights and recommendations to stakeholders that shape and enhance future communication activities. Collaborating with internal teams and staff networks to support the delivery of staff network events, talks, and communications.

What are you looking for?



Experienced Internal Communications professional with a successful track record of delivering multi-channel communications (e.g. intranet, email, newsletters, staff events & talks) that support business objectives. Significant experience planning, delivering, and evaluating internal communications projects, campaigns, and events from start to finish. Strong content creation and copywriting skills, whether that's delivering yourself, through your team, or through commissioning other teams. Strong prioritisation, organisational, and project management skills with a proven ability to:


+ Work independently and as part of project teams and working groups to plan and prioritise internal communications projects, deliverables, and messaging.
+ Simultaneously manage multiple projects while delivering to deadlines with strong attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with experience building credible, collaborative, and engaging stakeholder relationships. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to tell a story and translate complex concepts into engaging content for a diverse range of internal audiences. Demonstrates an understanding of how to use audience insights, feedback, and data to inform decision-making and drive improvements. A proactive approach to problem-solving with a solutions-driven approach and an ability to think creatively about ways to engage audiences.
