The Legal Counsel, International provides strategic, transactional and corporate legal counsel for business activities across certain International markets. This role interfaces with all business functions within Amicus International and an essential feature of being an effective in-house counsel is working in close partnership with a variety of business leaders, and functions, and markets. The role contributes to the success of the Global Legal function by supporting the corporate governance of Amicus, effective management of legal risk, day to day advice on projects for both business functions
across the International business and multiple countries and contract negotiation and drafting for a variety of activities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Provide legal counsel to the International business through timely, pragmatic and high-quality substantive legal advice. This may include advising business functions such as Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Patient Advocacy, Compliance, Finance, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Quality, Drug Safety and HR teams as well as General Managers in Amicus Affiliates and in-market teams and Commercial leaders responsible for overseeing distributor markets.
Serve as business partner to allocated markets, countries and business functions by establishing rapport, building and maintaining trust through effective communication and interactions.
Identify, understand and assess legal risks. Deliver advice to manage such risks with an explanation of any necessary controls consistent with law, Amicus's policies and code of business conduct.
Assist in the maintenance of Amicus's ex-US corporate structure, support foreign entities, support related tax, regulatory and commercial planning, including advising on corporate governance and regulatory compliance in allocated functions and markets.
Review and advise on proposed business activities and projects, together with review and drafting of contracts in compliance with laws for multiple expertise areas, including agreements for services, consultancy, grants, donations and sponsorships and distribution agreements.
Provide expert advice across key areas of law including European Union and local laws (working with external counsel as needed) concerning medicines law, pricing and reimbursement legal frameworks, digital and data law (including use of artificial intelligence), data privacy, interactions with patients and health care professionals and related matters, anti-bribery and corruption, competition law, data privacy law, intellectual property rights.
Monitor proposals for both new and revisions to existing legislation to facilitate Amicus' compliance with all applicable law and regulations and assist in building cross-functional policies and procedures.
Manage relationships and instructions with local counsel in accordance with agreed fee estimates and budget on assigned matters as needed to effectively support the business, including contentious matters.
Support Head of Legal International and work collaboratively with all members of Global and International Legal Teams.
Professional experience and qualifications
+ Relevant levels of:
+ In-house legal experience in the Life Science industry
+ Significant post qualification experience as a Solicitor or equivalent in another jurisdiction.
+ LLB degree, JD or equivalent.
+ Professional qualification, bar or law society membership
