The Course Director for Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy provides strategic and academic leadership for the BSc DHDT programme at Canterbury Christ Church University. The postholder is responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, GDC-accredited curriculum that integrates clinical excellence with academic rigour. They oversee all aspects of programme planning, teaching, assessment, and quality assurance, ensuring compliance with institutional and national regulatory frameworks. As the academic and clinical lead, the Programme Director manages the DHDT teaching team, promoting excellence in education, clinical practice, and student support.
The role involves leading curriculum innovation, embedding technology-enhanced learning, and maintaining strong relationships with clinical partners and stakeholders. They ensure that clinical governance, patient safety, and professional standards are upheld throughout the student journey.
Additionally, the postholder oversees resource management, budgetary planning, and workforce organisation to support programme sustainability and growth. Working collaboratively across the Canterbury and Medway campuses, they ensure consistency of learning experience and outcomes. Ultimately, the Programme Director plays a central role in developing the next generation of dental professionals through compassionate leadership, educational innovation, and continuous quality improvement.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will be an experienced dental professional, registered with the General Dental Council, with a strong background in both clinical practice and higher education. You will bring proven leadership in curriculum design, programme management, and academic quality assurance within dental or allied health education. You will be commitment to maintaining high standards of clinical governance, patient safety, and professional ethics is essential.
The role requires someone skilled in collaboration, able to build strong partnerships across campuses with clinical providers and with regulatory bodies such as the GDC. You will be a visionary and compassionate leader, they will be dedicated to developing innovative, evidence-based education that prepares the next generation of dental professionals.
