A position has arisen for a Senior Lecturer/CTRU Portfolio Lead based in the Sheffield Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU). Sheffield CTRU aims to grow and diversify its portfolio of multi-centre clinical trials and intervention evaluation studies. The Senior Lecturer/CTRU Portfolio Lead will be responsible for trial design, grant development and submission as well as senior level oversight of study implementation, including oversight of CTIMPs (Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products). You will work closely with CTRU staff and study Chief Investigators to secure research funding and ensure that studies under your supervision are implemented in accordance with randomised controlled trial scientific principles, the study protocols and regulatory standards. You will have teaching and staff management responsibilities and will contribute to the strategic development of the trial's unit and to methodological research in the area of clinical trials.


You will provide oversight of all aspects of CTRU input into the studies within your portfolio and ensure that delivery of the studies meets regulatory frameworks and the requirements of the funder. Experience of project-managing large, multi-centre clinical trials is essential. Experience of NIHR funding programmes is also essential.


Main duties and responsibilities





You will be responsible for:


Developing a portfolio of research in collaboration with clinical investigators through designing studies, submitting research applications and securing grants. Acting as the senior CTRU representative (CTRU Lead) for studies, liaising with Chief Investigators, clinicians, research collaborators and methodologists. Ensuring the CTRU studies, for which you are the CTRU lead, are undertaken in accordance with randomised controlled trial scientific principles and the protocol. Overseeing all input into studies for which you are the CTRU lead including that delivered by external partners. Supervision of trial managers and research assistants including CTIMP study managers. Under your supervision, ensuring compliance with research ethics, the Medicines for Human Use Clinical Trials Regulations (2004), clinical governance and data protection and good clinical practice requirements. If required, contribute to the preparation for and response to MHRA inspections. Lead on the preparation of papers for academic journals. Lead on the presentation of findings at academic conferences. Hold responsibility for delivery of studies within agreed time-scales and funding. Lead and contribute to high-quality teaching development and delivery. Design, deliver, assess, and evaluate high quality research-led teaching programmes, which will include identifying learning objectives and selecting appropriate curricula, selecting teaching methods, resources and reading, designing and producing study material using both on-campus and online approaches. You will demonstrate consistently excellent feedback and curriculum development. Prepare, design, mark, and moderate student assessments, providing effective feedback support and guidance to students. Judge whether student circumstances should be taken into consideration in the assessment and collate final assessments of students. Undertake personal tutor/pastoral responsibilities for students and supervise master's degree research projects Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.
