Wood is recruiting for a Senior Legal Advisor to join the Corporate Transactions team within our Legal function on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will p rovide direct support to the Strategy Corporate Development and Project Management Office teams, the Tax and Treasury teams and Group Finance and other identified key stakeholders , and will be involved in the project management of strategic Corporate Transactions (disposals, restructuring, treasury transactions, investments, M&A, joint ventures, material company secretarial projects)


We are looking for candidates with experience of complex legal analysis and problem solving with the ability to consistently deliver to stakeholders and work with external counsel. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of precise, commercial, timely and cost effective legal counsel in respect of any matter requiring and in respect of any matter which has potential or actual legal or reputational implications, supporting the needs of the relevant area, ensuring priorities are aligned with the relevant short and long term strategic priorities and enabling the success through effective management of legal risk and cost.


This position is based in our Aberdeen office with hybrid working, ideally 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

The Role



The role reports to our Senior Vice President of Legal and will work with a degree of autonomy in complex legal projects requiring analysis and judgement commensurate with level of experience and as delegated by the SVP Legal. The role acts within applicable Wood / functional policies and procedures, the Legal and other applicable Group and / or Business Unit delegations of authority in addition to legislative boundaries across multi-jurisdictions.


The role acts as a business partner providing counsel and mentoring on legal matters as required, you will cover a broad spectrum of specialist areas of law on a multi-jurisdictional basis where significant experience and judgement are needed, including, M&A activity, joint ventures, litigation / disputes, employment law, treasury, IP / innovation, real estate, company establishment and compliance matters.


You will work closely with internal stakeholders and functions including, Strategy Corporate Development, Tax, Treasury, and Group Finance, along with other key stakeholders, Wood LCEC Team and Group Functions. For external relationships you will engage with General Counsel and in-house legal teams of our clients and partners, third party contracts, service providers and vendors.

Input to and understanding of the legal function agenda, strategy, policies and programs in the context of the relevant business unit / service bundle(s) to enhance business performance and results Clarifying business priorities and ensuring alignment of legal services, supporting junior members of the team in the delivery of legal counsel as appropriate Ensure the effective, timely and cost-effective delivery of legal counsel, support, governance and compliance in the relevant geographic regions, including project management of external legal service provider engagement and related budgets Perform complex legal analysis and problem solving, research, counsel and guidance, including effective communication of same Inputs / prepares for litigation / disputes; works with outside counsel to develop the claim / defence, or leads disputes to resolution, including instruction and supervision of outside counsel Maintains and inputs into matter and cost management databases Develop understanding of legal risks and cost, including anticipating potential risk and developing risk mitigation strategies Provide oversight of functional legal risk and management, proactively identifying and effectively managing legal risk and compliance Successfully communicates and delivers strategic legal and compliance initiatives as and when required Manage current and new vendor relationships, identifying appropriate partners who can add value, with a focus on continuous improvement Proactively shares knowledge and experience with other members of the legal team to assist in overall development and progression of the team Supports the creation of a cohesive team and organisational culture based on values and excellence in delivery which fosters innovation and collaboration, continuous improvement and change Captures lessons learned and contributes to progressive learning programmes within the legal team and the relevant area of responsibility Consistently exhibits Wood's behaviours and leads by personal example, encouraging all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with all applicable laws and Wood's standards and policies

Expected:



Qualification as a Lawyer, Solicitor, Barrister or equivalent qualification and valid law license Experience in an in-house or private practice 6+ years post-qualification, consideration will be given to those with 4+ years post-qualification at Legal Counsel with a desire to progress to a Senior Legal Advisor Strong commercial acumen and highly developed legal and analytical skills (e.g., negotiation, drafting, relevant legal knowledge) Time management, use of IT systems and tools Experience of managing complex legal analysis and implement effective legal training regime Experience of Multiple legal practice areas to support the role objectives, for example, corporate, commercial, dispute resolution, investigations, real estate, compliance and IP Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and development
