Senior Legal Counsel (Inside IR35) Contract Term: 12 months Contracting Authority: International Nuclear Services Ltd Location: Remote Imagine having a talent that could benefit someone you’ve never met and solve problems you didn’t even know existed. As a Senior Legal Counsel, your main responsibilities would be:

  • Ensuring that the GC and DGC (as appropriate) are fully informed in an efficient,
    effective, and timely manner of all relevant legal matters, issues and advice required to
    enable the GC to discharge their responsibilities to the NTS, its Board and Executive,
    as well as NDA and other stakeholders
  • Acting as a role model with the aim of creating a resilient, constructive, and collaborative
    working environment for the Legal Team
  • Adopting a business partner approach and work closely with and develop good relations
    with colleagues across NTS to understand their legal advice needs and priorities, to
    encourage staff to work closely and proactively with the Legal Team and ensure they
    receive appropriate and timely advice from the Legal Team
  • Providing legal advice and assurance in relation to projects, transactions, and other
    activities across NTS
  • Providing legal advice to NTS on a range of matters including programmes, projects and
    ad hoc
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with Senior Legal Counsel across the NDA group
    and work collaboratively with them
  • Seeking continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility and develop and
    recommend changes where required
  • Representing NTS in discussions with partners, customers, and suppliers
  • Keeping abreast of good legal practice and developments in all relevant aspects of
    changes in law, advising on consequent impact to INS operations and recommending
    and implementing training for INS employees where relevant
  • Assisting the GC and DGC in proactively identifying legal risks and proposing pragmatic
    solutions to address and manage such risks
  • Advising on the following areas: Rail / Shipping / Solutions Litigation; Employment;
    Safety; Environment; Regulatory relations and enforcement; Safeguards; Transport;
    Corporate risk management; National and international nuclear law; Insurance; Vires
    and State Aid; Information Governance; Intellectual Property; Compliance transactional
    and project work; corporate transactions, commercial work procurement; real estate
    transactions; technology transfer arrangements and intellectual property transactions;
    collaborations with NDA Group organisations; and litigation arising out of the areas
    above

You’ll have:

  • A fully qualified lawyer eligible to practice as a Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal
    Executive in England/Wales
  • Post-graduate professional UK legal qualifications/relevant body recognition
  • Substantial demonstrable post qualification legal experience, which should include significant experience in: Commercial (contract) law in an international environment, drafting & negotiating
    complex commercial contracts including multi-jurisdictional issues, and in-house
    experience; and Public procurement law, including Public Contracts Regulations advice within a
    commercial environment, drafting of ITT documentation, bespoke Supplier
    Contracts and providing assurance and support to the procurement team on
    supplier related issues
  • Substantial experience of face-to-face negotiations with customers’ representatives and
    their legal teams
  • Experience of operating and influencing at senior management level, providing legal
    advice, and advising on range of legal issues in high pressure environments to tight
    deadlines
  • The ability to advise generally in other areas of law (competition law including state aid, IP,
    employment, etc
  • Experience of the following is desirable but not essential: Providing commercial legal advice within a regulated environment; Maritime, rail, and general transport law matters relevant to the transport of nuclear material
  • A high level of personal integrity and willingness to work independently or within cross functional teams as required
  • The ability to exercise discretion and use sound judgement to inform decision making
  • Experience as a business lawyer, technically excellent, commercially aware, with a
    pragmatic approach and the ability to deliver complex legal advice in business-friendly
    language clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
