Senior Counsel role




We are looking for a professional, technically strong and team-oriented lawyer based in London, Oxford or Cambridge to join our growing Legal team and help to support all aspects of the business across the UK and US. This will be a varied and interesting role with a primary focus on commercial contracting and scope to advise across the spectrum of legal matters applicable to our rapidly scaling business. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who is keen to help to build out a team that will work collaboratively with colleagues as a strategic partner rather than a service provider.

Key responsibilities



Leading on the review, drafting and negotiation of complex commercial agreements with clients, partners and suppliers. Advising on intellectual property matters. Advising on data privacy matters. Supporting the regulatory team with advice on regulatory issues relevant to the life sciences and healthcare sectors. Advising on internal policies and procedures for the purpose of appropriate risk management. Dealing with new and evolving areas of law.

Essential



English-qualified (or US-qualified) lawyer with at least four years' post-qualification experience (or equivalent US experience). Some in-house experience, preferably within a life sciences, healthcare or technology business and / or a venture-backed scale-up. Significant experience in commercial contracting and at least two of the following: intellectual property; data privacy and governance; SaaS; regulatory issues applicable to the life sciences and healthcare sectors (including medical device matters). Ability to navigate complex and novel legal issues and deliver solution-focussed advice in a dynamic commercial environment. Versatility. Team mindset. High levels of professionalism and integrity. Excellent communication skills. Significant experience in transaction management and leading negotiations. Commitment to fostering an inclusive culture within a diverse team.

Desirable



Training in a leading law firm. Willingness to support the wider Legal team on matters outside your existing specialisms (over time and as appropriate), e.g. M&A; governance and other company law matters; incentives; employment law; new product and service development and launches; expansion of the business into new jurisdictions (with appropriate external support). Some experience of cross-border transactional work and / or company law.
