Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description

Through our vital research, the National Physical Laboratory is helping support scientific and commercial innovations, international trade, environmental protection and health and wellbeing. As our Senior Engineer you'll be joining our Engineering Manufacture group, this role will have a strong focus on costing and estimation. This is a full-time role based in Teddington.


What you'll be doing:





Cross-functional Collaboration:


Facilitate coordination between engineering, design, manufacturing, and quality teams. Lead integration of mechanical and electrical design to generate accurate system BoMs.

Design & Manufacturing Support:


Provide design-for-manufacture input throughout the product life cycle. Support early VROM cost estimation activities.
System Integration & Configuration Control:
Manage the transition of systems from design to production with configuration control. Ensure systems are built according to the latest design specifications and documented requirements.
Assembly & Planning Coordination:
Develop and coordinate assembly planning for complex and major system builds. Oversee integration verification to confirm system build aligns with intended design.
Quality & Non-Conformance Management:
Drive resolution of shop floor quality issues and non-conformance management. Oversee "As-built" part documentation and traceability.
Verification & Validation:
Lead system Verification and Validation in collaboration with Systems Engineering. Oversee Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) to confirm operational compliance with customer requirements.
Delivery & Compliance:
Manage system delivery handover with reporting aligned to customer requirements & specifications.
Continuous Improvement & Special Projects:
Drive continuous improvement initiatives in the workshop. Lead special R&D type engineering projects.
Digital Tools & Systems Integration:
Support and improve integrations between ERP and PLM systems to enhance traceability and workflow.

Please note, this role will be known internally as 'Senior Engineer'.




Key Skills and Experience that you can bring to the role:




Proven experience in production, integration, or systems engineering environments. Strong understanding of configuration control and engineering change processes. Experience working with ERP and PLM systems. Familiarity with FAT/V&V processes and quality documentation. Excellent organizational and communication skills, dealing with project stakeholders. Ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination in a production environment. History of leading and delivering continuous improvement activities through the use of Six Sigma methods.
