This is a brilliant opportunity for a talented campaigns marketer with an interest in history and the cultural sector.




You will be the lead for marketing campaign content, delivery, and digital marketing communications at The National Archives, helping to grow our audience numbers and deepen engagement.




You will be a brand ambassador, providing strategic guidance to communication teams around the organisation to engage existing and new audiences with The National Archives. The successful applicant will manage the delivery of effective marketing communications across broadcast, and digital channels that promote our exhibitions, events, products and services.




You will oversee, coordinate and manage our marketing channels including a varied email marketing programme and a variety of social media channels.




This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department. A combination of onsite and home working is available and applicants should be able to regularly travel to our Kew site for a minimum of 60% of their work time.

Role and Responsibilities


Decision making and strategy:


Lead and shape the approach, priorities and investment for paid and owned marketing campaign delivery, including channel selection, content development and schedule. Work with the Marketing Manager on an evolved social media strategy and team delivery. Manage the monitoring of our social media community. Ideate content ideas with key stakeholders across the organisation from concept, through to delivery. Contract and manage creative asset production including designers, photographers, videographers, and animators. Implement the delivery of all general marketing emails in line with the department calendar. Working with the Marketing Manager develop strategies to raise brand awareness and deepen engagement across all marketing channels. Engage, influence and present strategy to stakeholders. Deputise for the Marketing Manager as required.
Brand management:


Provide practical guidance and ensure compliance of the visual and verbal identity to teams responsible for external communications across the organisation Manage brand projects such as new collateral and template development, engaging senior leadership, external and internal stakeholders. Engage with Brand Ambassadors across the organisation to ensure brand guidelines are met across organisation touch points.
Campaign and digital marketing delivery:


Working with our agencies develop targeted multi-channel marketing plans and a multi-channel multi-format schedule that supports the breadth of our audiences, work and services Lead and manage the delivery of paid and owned media for campaigns, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging and maintaining high standards to ensure brand reputation and consistency. Identify, and create high quality digital content, in coordination with specialist, programming and editorial teams to publish and schedule content across social media channels Plan, prioritise and monitor advertising and design spend according to civil service rules and to demonstrate effective return on investment Working with Audience Insights establish a strong evaluative framework for marketing activity, maximising the potential of data to improve response and retention. Create a monthly digital analytics report and disseminate to key stakeholders across the organisation.
Relationships and stakeholder management:


Establish effective and collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders. Provide marketing advice/strategies on project/programme boards. Manage day-to-day relationships with external suppliers and commission external work as required. Establish key relationships within the wider arts, heritage and civil service to build organisation's external reputation. Introduce new thinking and build team capacity. Source and maximise opportunities for reciprocal marketing activities (e.g. with other cultural institutions) to raise The National Archives' profile and engage audiences. Engage and negotiate with external partners to achieve appropriate outcomes.

Essential criteria:


Marketing experience:

Significant practical experience of developing and delivering high-quality, successful marketing strategy and multi-channel campaigns, including strength in and hands-on experience of email marketing and social media.

Brand and creative experience:

Proven track record of experience and expertise in brand management, including hands-on design skills and experience with Adobe Creative Cloud

Communication skills:

Experience in copywriting and editing; with the ability to convey complex information to external audiences and key stakeholders in an accessible, concise and engaging manner. A clear presenter, confident and determined in work with the vision and ability to express it.

Teamwork:

Excellent interpersonal skills with enthusiasm and credibility to lead. Proven experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams and of influencing senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Planning and project management:

Excellent organisational and project management skills, can work flexibly, think creatively to solve problems and proven ability to manage complex programmes of work, involving inputs from various teams; to produce work of high quality under pressure with minimal supervision

Experience / knowledge of the cultural sector and an awareness of The National Archives and our work
