The team

An opportunity has arisen for the role of Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer within Design & Energy Services, who provide multi-disciplinary design, technical, Quantity Surveying, and Project Management professional services to the Council across a wide-ranging scope of projects to housing, schools, and public building portfolios, energy schemes and the management of demolition projects.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated professional with a background in Mechanical Engineering, who can demonstrate that their knowledge, skills, and experiences align to the criteria of the Job Profile, and who can effectively work collaboratively with other disciplines both within the team and across wider Services.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive Mechanical Engineering duties across pre-construction, design coordination, CDM 2015, and contract administration. Develop and deliver schemes to briefs, budgets, and programmes, ensuring quality assurance and audit trails. Undertake site visits, prepare design scopes/reports, and assist with minor financial tasks. Fulfil the duties of Principal Designer in accordance with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015. Work closely with other areas of the wider organisation on the delivery of projects related to corporate priorities. Mentor or manage other team members as needed.

Essential Criteria:

Knowledge: Mechanical systems and technologies, Codes of Practice, Statutory Regulations, CIBSE standards, RIBA Plan of Work 2020, CDM 2015, Contract Administration, and site practices. Qualifications: Minimum HNC in Building Services Engineering/Mechanical Engineering, and a current UK driving licence with access to a car or means of mobility support. Experience: Surveys, scoping, pre-construction programming, design coordination, Stage 4 design reviewing, roles of Principal Designer and Contract Administrator, excellent oral and written communication skills, and computer literacy including Microsoft Office suite.
