We Are Bau Group is a private, family-run Mechanical & Electrical contractor that has grown significantly in recent years, delivering projects across the UK. With a strong pipeline of Design & Build work and expanding in-house capabilities, we are now looking to appoint a
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
to lead and deliver building services designs internally.
This role is key to reducing reliance on external consultants and strengthening our technical offering across M&E, BMS, and Facilities Management.
The Role
As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take
technical ownership of Mechanical design
across our projects, working closely with project managers, site teams, CAD technicians, BMS engineers, and clients.
You will be responsible for delivering
fully compliant, buildable, and commercially sound designs
from concept through to completion.
This is a
hands-on design role
, not purely managerial.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver full
Mechanical designs
for Design & Build projects
Produce and review calculations (heating, cooling, ventilation, power, lighting, etc.)
Develop designs from
RIBA Stage 3-5
Coordinate Mech design with architectural, structural, and BMS requirements
Manage and direct the
CAD technician
, ensuring accurate drawings and revisions
Review subcontractor designs and technical submissions
Support value engineering and buildability reviews
Provide technical support to project managers and site teams
Ensure designs comply with
CIBSE, BS, IET, and Building Regulations
Assist with technical input for tenders and pre-construction activities
Required Experience & Skills
Minimum
5-10 years' experience
in building services Mech design
Strong background in
Design & Build contractor environment
(essential)
Proven ability to design independently without reliance on external consultants
Solid understanding of HVAC, electrical systems, and coordinated services design
Experience working alongside CAD technicians and construction teams
Confident communicator with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders
Competent using industry design software and calculations tools
Qualifications
Degree or HNC/HND in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering
Chartered status (CIBSE / IET) desirable but not essential
Chartered or working towards chartership advantageous
