The Role
To provide engineering design solutions and through life engineering support to the JFD product range and systems, Working as a technical lead for the engineering team, Workload can vary from new product design to meet client or internal specifications through to supporting an existing client's request to upgrade or change equipment in the field.
This role ensures design integrity, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions that meet performance, safety, and manufacturing standards.
Due to the requirements of this role, all candidates must be able to obtain UK Security Clearance.
Principle Accountabilities
Lead robust solutions to complex mechanical design challenges
Conduct detailed design and stress analysis of pressure vessels and structures using classical methods and FEA
Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation to support engineering design and manufacturing
Deliver end-to-end mechanical system designs, from concept and schematics to full engineering release
Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes, legislation, and Pressure Equipment Regulations
Collaborate with classification bodies (e.g., Lloyd's Register, DNV) to secure design approvals
Review and approve engineering drawings and specifications for accuracy and compliance
Supervise and mentor engineers and draughtsmen in producing detailed technical documentation
Liaise with clients and subcontractors to understand requirements and provide effective technical solutions
Manage engineering deliverables to meet project timelines, budgets, and quality standards
Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
Advanced pressure vessel design expertise using PD5500, ASME VIII, and EN 13445, with proficiency in both design-by-rule and design-by-analysis methods
Skilled in FEA using ANSYS Workbench, and experience with SolidWorks, MathCAD, Finglow, and PLM systems
Strong understanding of pressure vessel manufacturing techniques and engineering change processes
Knowledge of Class Society rules (e.g., Lloyd's, DNV) and industry standards such as IMCA, particularly in diving, marine, and lifting applications
Proven ability to produce high-quality, detail-oriented technical documentation and collaborate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and classification bodies
Holds a Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent industry background, with practical experience in pressure vessel engineering and dive systems would be advantageous
A proactive and adaptable team player with strong communication and organisational skills, who takes ownership, solves problems with initiative, and consistently delivers high-quality results under pressure
Willingness to travel overseas
