The role
As a Senior Mechanical Test Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll be at the heart of commissioning and testing activities that keep the Royal Navy's most advanced submarines operational. This is an opportunity to work on projects that matter - supporting national security and contributing to engineering excellence.
Day-to-day you'll be:

• Leading and motivating a team of Test Engineers to deliver commissioning and calibration activities.
• Supervising mechanical testing in line with Clyde Safety Management Arrangements.
• Liaising with planning teams to ensure resources and schedules align.
• Driving compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Supporting the creation and approval of technical reports, test forms, and procedures.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at HMNB Clyde, Faslane. Shift patterns apply and may vary depending on operational requirements. A shift allowance of 35% is included for roles working these patterns.
Essential experience of the Senior Mechanical Test Engineer

• Strong understanding of commissioning processes.
• Proven mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Proficiency with IT systems including MS Office and databases.
• Commitment to Health & Safety principles.
• Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Test Engineer

• Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or HNC (or equivalent experience).

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
