Role Summary





The Senior Medical Director role combines strategic commercial and clinical leadership for one of the Occupational Health Centres of Excellence.



Optima Health has combined clients with similar health risk profiles into five Centres of Excellence:


Rail, transport & retail NHS & ambulance trusts and higher education. Police, fire and rescue Central and local Government Manufacturing, construction, and financial services




As the medical leader you will need to be expert in the occupational risks these clients face, understand what services they should have to mitigate and control those risks, ensure that the services we provide are as comprehensive as possible.



You will professionally lead the team of physicians and other professionals providing those services. To that end you will develop sector specific knowledge and skills to provide best in class services. You will ensure that clinical practice meets the highest standards within the Centre of Excellence.



You will help to build our reputation as the supplier of choice, thereby growing our business in line with our core values.



You will have a minimum commitment of 3 days per week if full time clinical or other billable activity within the sector. You will chair the Clinical Governance Forum for the sector. The balance of your time will be dedicated to collaborating with clients and cross functionally. You will be an essential part of the Medical Leadership team.




Main Duties and Responsibilities




Collaborate with the Contract Manager and Customer Operations Managers and Clinical Leads to understand and prioritise the health risks across the sector. Have regular contact to review the clients' strategic problems with senior client staff, sharing cross sector expertise with them. Where there are gaps in services, identify what additional services could be offered and work with the contract manager to produce a commercial proposal for the client. Support the contract Managers and Customer Operations Managers maintaining high net promotor scores for each client. Participate in the quarterly Strategic Sector Business forum alongside BD, and Propositions providing intelligence on + Clinical patterns, risks, and challenges for the sector
+ Identify best practices among clients.
+ Provide recommendations as to areas we could develop new products to meet client needs.
+ Provide an update on the external state of the nation.
Provide clinical assurance to Contract Managers, BD, and Propositions and represent Optima Health at bid presentations and other client meetings as required. Support the Clinical Leads with any issues in transition. Work with Clinical Performance Managers to optimise the efficient delivery of the service. (Quality and Productivity) Work with the Clinical Academy to help train our doctors. Develop and maintain the necessary subject matter expertise required for the Centre of Excellence you lead. Establish an effective cross functional clinical governance forum in your sector to oversee clinical standards and ensure quality standards are achieved and risks minimised. (CPM's, Clinical Standards, OHA Clinical Leads) Work with other OHAs & allied professional Clinical Performance Managers to ensure excellent services to the client and that all sector specific audit requirements are met. Lead and supervise by coaching and mentoring the Employed and Associate Occupational Physicians working in the sector. Work closely and collaboratively with the clinical standards team to oversee clinical standards and quality in the specific sectors, to ensure contractual agreements are met, quality standards achieved, and risks minimised Establish OHP Teams network groups and organise sector specific training and development. Work with the CMO and your SMD colleagues to deliver quality OH services across Optima Health

Who Are We Looking For?




Substantial experience in a senior clinical role. Experience of building, leading, and managing teams delivering occupational health services. Ability to identify and address clinical performance issues. Advanced people skills including negotiating and influencing skills. Sound understanding of the role and commitment to clinical governance. History of establishing, influencing, and maintaining customer relationships. Well-developed negotiating and influencing skills with strong commercial and business awareness. Flexible and innovative approach to delivering high quality Professional services within a fast-moving business environment. IT literate in the range of IT platforms used in OH. A pragmatic approach to solving problems, excellent task management skills with coordinating multiple activities to meet deadlines.
