This includes a new Imaging department with bi-plane Neuro-angiography and 3 Tesla and intra-operative MRI. We are a modern department who strive for quality. We are the regional Trauma and Stroke centre with mechanical thrombectomy and our service reflects the challenges this brings with it.



This position would be ideal for any radiographer who holds a strong interest in neurological imaging and would like to develop a strong role in MRI. It is a 50/50 split between MRI and Neuro rotation spending solid time in each.



Previous experience in MRI and Neuro-angio would be ideal but is not a necessity as our training programmes are very comprehensive.



You will implement advanced imaging techniques within this niche service, developing interventional angiography skills . This will involve the team participating in advanced interventional treatments such as aneurysm and AVM treatment, and exciting stroke management such as mechanical thrombectomy.



Most importantly we are looking for someone with NHS experience who is eager to join our developing team and someone who is as passionate as we are about the service that we deliver.



The radiographer will be expected to work in Neuroangiography, Interventional Radiology (IR), MRI, and CT on the Royal Sussex County Hospital site.



Will be an experienced HCPC registered radiographer able to undertake a wide range of clinical duties to provide the highest quality radiological images at all times to assist patient diagnosis and treatment, supporting all colleagues to do the same.



To support the Superintendent radiographers with the day to day running of the department is smoothly co-ordinated whilst delivering a high quality patient experience.



Ensure departmental adherence to x-ray regulations (IR(ME)R, IR17), MHRA MRI safety guidelines and UHSx policy guidelines/protocols.



In addition to your normal core hours, participation in the out of hour's rota is necessary. This will include some weekend and night shift work and on-calls from home.



You will be a senior influence within the department. You will be working throughout the Imaging department which includes a state of the art bi-plane Neuro angiography suite, two 1.5T Philips Ambition X MRI scanners, one 1.5T Siemens Aera MRI scanner, one 3.0T Philips Elition X, 5 CT scanners including a dedicated A&E CT. This will expand to include Philips intra-operative MRI in the future.

Service Delivery



Be able to use the full range of radiographic equipment within the departments including neuro-angiography, IR, CT, MRI.



To achieve and maintain a high standard of Imaging, and to support the out of hours service by supporting the 24 hour cover arrangements.



To be able to perform complex neuro-radiography procedure within the CT, MRI and neuro-angiography environment.



Maintain expert clinical practice and support colleagues to do the same, providing and teaching high standards in all of imaging techniques undertaken.



To advise on MRI safety issues, including giving advice where appropriate regarding neurosurgical/ endovascular implant.



To train in Neuro-Angiography/ IR suites have the knowledge to be able to adapt technique, to know when further imaging or change of protocol is required and provide appropriate advice to colleagues as necessary.



To have knowledge of the various interventional techniques used within Neuro-Angiography/IR suites and to be able to react quickly to changes in the patient's condition when required.



Liaise with the appropriate radiologist if clinical input is required and ensure any change of practice is adequately documented and communicated.



Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to local department policies.



To ensure that the CT, MRI and angiography local rules, (IR(ME)R, IR17), MHRA associated codes of practice, guidance notes, and the Health and Safety at Work Act are understood and adhered to in respect of staff, patients and members of the public.



Theatre radiography will include being able to use a range of mobile fluoroscopy to provide imaging during Neurosurgical operative procedures at the RSCH. The radiographer will be able to manipulate the equipment to optimize the imaging for the referring surgeon.



Fluoroscopy procedures at RSCH will include interventional techniques requiring the radiographer to assist in preparation of patients and equipment, including using sterile techniques.



To acquire and maintain competence in intravenous cannulation, venepuncture and intravenous therapy and work safely in accordance with the departments intravenous policies ensuring one's own knowledge is always kept up to date.



Liaise appropriately with the Superintendent Radiographer in charge.



To continually promote a patient focused service in a caring manner. Be able to communicate information to all patients and carers to minimise radiation doses.



To work in accordance with the practitioners guidelines for general radiography, CT head scans, Renal Colic CT, CT C-Spines T-Spines and CT Trauma scans.



To have a flexible approach to work, be able to regularly participate in the 24 hour cover and extended day rotas on the RSCH site.
