Your New Role



We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced? Senior Network and Security Engineer to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring the stability, integrity, and security of the?Royal Borough of Greenwich's?network and systems. You will be part of a dedicated team responsible for providing 3rd Line Technical Support for the Royal Borough of Greenwich network along with Network design, planning, testing, implementation and assistance in the maintenance of all routers, switches, wireless access points and firewalls to ensure optimum performance at all times

Responsibilities



Network design, planning, testing, implementation and assistance in the maintenance of all routers, switches, WAPs and firewalls to ensure optimum performance at all times Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability and reliability Implement and maintain security solutions including firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and SIEM tools Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing Lead incident response efforts and forensic investigations Develop and enforce network and security policies, procedures, and standards Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support secure application and infrastructure deployments Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on projects Provide hands-on support for network installations, upgrades, and maintenance Perform routine network health checks and diagnostics Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations and changes Support the rollout of new sites and services across the customer estate Liaise with third-party vendors and service providers to resolve technical issues Assist in the configuration and deployment of network hardware (routers, switches, access points and firewalls) Ensure compliance with internal and external security and operational standards

Your areas of knowledge and expertise



Proven experience in network engineering and cybersecurity roles Relevant certifications equivalent to CCNP, PCNSE Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, STP etc.) Hands-on experience with firewalls (e.g., Fortigate, Cisco ASA, Palo Alto), switches, and routers Proficiency with security tools (e.g., Splunk, Wireshark, Nessus, CrowdStrike) Experience with cloud networking and security (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Familiarity with compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, etc.) Excellent problem-solving and communication skills A full UK driving licence
