Southwest Hybrid - Based from Plymouth, Exeter, or Weston-Super-Mare
Contract Type:
Full time, Permanent (37 hours per week)
Salary:
50,000 - 56,000 p.a. (DOE) plus performance bonus
At Delt, we don't just provide IT; we deliver digital services that make a real difference to the lives of people across the Southwest. Our teams support thousands of users across the Southwest, ensuring technology works seamlessly so our customers can focus on the people and communities they serve.
As a Senior Network & Telephony Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering, supporting and evolving the core connectivity and communications platforms that Delt provides to its customers.
Working in a complex, multi-tenant enterprise environment, you'll take ownership of a defined set of systems, ensuring they remain secure, available, resilient and efficient. You'll lead on operational improvements, project delivery, incident resolution and system optimisation - while also providing technical guidance and direction to more junior engineers.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role with genuine influence. You'll act as a subject matter expert, shaping standards, feeding into architecture decisions, and ensuring services are fit for both today and what's coming next.
What you'll do
Acting as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer within Delt's Connectivity & Communication platforms, operating as a subject matter expert in your specialist area
Taking senior technical responsibility for one or more of the following system domains:
Estate-wide boundary and filtering technologies (e.g. firewalls, proxies, SD-WAN, BGP)
Distribution and access layer technologies across varied campus environments (switching, VLANs, Wi-Fi)
Enterprise telephony solutions, including call routing and automated call distribution
Leading the implementation of projects, enhancements and system improvements within your owned platforms
Ensuring risks and issues are clearly documented, managed and mitigated in collaboration with the Service Owner
Providing technical input into solution design, onboarding of new customers, and integration of new technologies, working closely with Technical Architects
Producing and maintaining high-quality technical documentation, including designs, runbooks, asset records and configuration management data
Owning change activity within live environments, including implementation, back-out and test planning, risk assessment and governance
Monitoring system capacity, availability, security and performance, taking remedial action and escalating where appropriate
Leading recovery processes for your systems and ensuring robust, tested recovery approaches are in place
Identifying and assessing emerging technologies and trends relevant to your platforms
Supporting the development of technical capability across the infrastructure team through documentation, knowledge-sharing and hands-on guidance
Demonstrating a strong commitment to continuous professional and technical development
What you'll bring:
You'll be an experienced, confident engineer who's comfortable operating at senior level in an enterprise environment and enjoys taking ownership rather than waiting for instruction.
Essential experience and knowledge:
Experience working within an ITIL-aligned enterprise infrastructure environment
Experience working within security compliance frameworks, such as Cyber Essentials
Demonstrable subject matter expert experience - including documentation, standards development and complex troubleshooting - in the following areas:
Boundary and filtering technologies and enterprise routing (e.g. firewalls, proxies, SD-WAN, BGP)
Distribution and access layer technologies (switching, VLANs, Wi-Fi)
Enterprise telephony platforms and call routing solutions
Desirable qualifications:
ITIL Foundation certification
Cyber security-related qualifications
Relevant technical certifications aligned to networking, telephony or infrastructure technologies
Please note, this is a hybrid opportunity that will involve travel onsite to customers based across Devon & North Somerset. Due to this, we will only be considering applicants based in the Southwest.
